Hi Everyone
I have to get a shoulder opp next week and wont be able to get in the water for up to 8 weeks.
I would like to use that time to increase my breath hold time for spearing and i though this is a good time to do it.
So can you Apnea Gods advise me of the best way to do it, i can practice on the couch and when walking.
I would also like to practice Packing if possable.

Also what is the best way to shorten your recovery time between dives so i can spend as little time on the surface.

Any advise would be greatly appriciated

Thanks Crusty

Would apnea dog will do as well?

Apnea walking should be good for CO2 tolerance. The main advice I can give on it is to NOT breath up inorder to prepare yourself for the longest walk, as that beats the point. It's not about distance but about CO2 exposure - you want to be exposed to as much CO2 as you can. Just hold your breath and walk till you can't. Breath a minute or so and repeat.
On the couch - 1 min hold, 1 breath, repeat * 20. Too easy? 1:30 hold, or 2:00, you get the idea.

Regarding pack stretching, I'm not sure that's the best idea after a shoulder surgery... but if you'll do that take it VERY gradually, I think a slow gain would be healthier and will last longer. Also I suggest you'll add empty lung stretches into it, such as the 'uddayana banda'. Your RV is also important not just TLC.

Don't know about training for fast recovery, so just a note: a good rule of thumb against freedivign DCS (and also for "re-oxygenating" tissues) is to have your surface time twice as your dive time. Maybe if you're diving only to 10m for spearfishing you could divert. But for 15-25m repetitive dives I'de keep to that. For 30m repetitives I'll give more time to the surface.

Take it easy as you want to heal only once.
I hope your operation will be successful.
