Hi everyone

been a while since I posted here. I hope all is going well.

I have a question though. I have not had any joy with this RA Alu 1.4. 2x 16mm rubbers (not too tight), 2xwrap mono and 7.5mil spear. So i got into the pool with it and did some target shooting (also did this with my trusty old 1.1)

what i found was that the 1.4 was shooting way left all the time.
This could be cause of my lousy aim (didnt realise just how lousy till i shot at an inanimate object) but i didnt have the same problem with the 1.1.
I am wondering if its the double wrap thats causing differential drag and pulling it to the one side, or its the kick from the double rubbers. anyone else have smilar experience?

cheers
Mark

Is the spear straight? I would check that first.
It doesn't take very much of a bend to make a spear fly off track.
You will need a very straight edge to check it.
hang from a door and look at the edge of the spear against the light, any bend will show up as a light strip, you will need to rotate the spear as you do this.

Check the flopper. Also make sure the two wraps of mono aren't too tight. More than likely though i'd say it's the spear.

I dont think its the spear. the gun has hardly been used.
def, what difference would having the wraps too tight make? they are pretty tight at the moment.

Shooting left or right may be beacuse of your setup rather than a gun. Probably there is something wrong with spear or shooting line or bands are not pulling equally, may be they are not matching size or may be muzzle is not align with spear guide...Check everything and you will find the mistake soon or later...

If your spear is straight, check your spearline knot, it may be caught by muzzle. Then check the bands, spear guide muzzle etc..Spearguns are not nuclear science rofl

Guns can come brand new with bent spears, no use is no guarantee of no abuse.
too tight wraps can pull the back of the spear to the side that the line comes through the muzzle, have you tried alternating the side where the line comes through?
Is your band equalised in the muzzle? when you pull the band back from the middle of your (cable?) wishbone are the lengths equal?

thanks for the tip. i'll try alternating the side the wrap goes over. if it shoots right then i know its the wrap for sure.

something else. because i want to dive the sardines with two guns so i want to set the 1.4 up for the second gun (frantic action). double rubbers and double wraps are a pain so i want to go down to 1 rubber and 1 wrap. maybe get a 7mil spear while i'm at it. anyone have any experience with a gun this long and only 1 16mm rubber? i dont relish the idea of pulling back a 20mm on a gun that long.

Hiya Griff

I've only used my 1500 RA with 2x16's and a 7.5mm spear, but that gun is VERY easy to load.

I have shot my 1200 RA with 7.5mm spear and a single 16mm. Works quite well!!! Was too lazy to load the second band AND there was loads of good sized longfin(albacore) around. No problems with insufficient power with the single wrap set-up i was using.

Worth looking at is the 6.6mm RA spear with a single 16mm. The mass of that spear, would be close to the mass of a 7mm spear on a 1200cm gun. So you still get good hitting power. Tried the 6.6mm single 16 combo on my 1500 RA and it work VERY well!!!! Only downside is that your 6.6mm spear might get mangled pretty quickly!!

hi miles,
thanks for the info. I didnt even know they had a 6.6mm spear in that length!
I'll give it a shot. Single wrap, 16mm rubber with a thinner spear.
cheers

check to make sure the track is straight and it was not damaged in shipping
check the spear

try detaching the mono line and freeshaft it
