RA Vecta or Aimrite railgun

I'm about to buy a new gun and was 99% sure I wanted a RA but was curious how you fellow spearos would react to this post. I've heard great things about RA's and I know they have a great following from their customers but I'd like to hear from you guys if you had to pick which one would you choose. I live in the Keys and I already know the size I need, just what to hear pros and cons about both brands.

Both great guns, what spare can you buy in your local dive shop? As in spear shafts etc, make it easy for yourself

My reaction:

well sh!+, if you're 99% sure, what's it going to take to get you to buy the Aimrite?

I don't think I ever got near 99% sure on any of my dive/spear related purchases.
 
I like the fact that aimrite has a lifetime warranty!!! (excluding shafts, bands or mono). Has anyone dealt with their warranty. Thanks again for your input.

I'm a fan of Wong/Aimrite products. Here's what I posted in reply to another guy who asked for a comparison of the two guns.


But I figure if you're 99% sure, you must have some good reasons for liking the RAs.
 
I've actually never even fired a RA but I post a forum a week ago asking about which was the best euro brand and got a lot of positive responces about RA. I knew about Wong guns but they were out of my price range until I found out about their aluminum railguns which are in my price range so now I'm rethinking my choice. I knew this would happen....I decided, then kept looking, and researching and asking questions and now I'm back to square one. Help!!

I just addressed that very question in a different thread yesterday, but since you asked if anyone had dealt with the warranty, I'll assume you didn't read it and cut and paste it in again.


To that, I'll just add that you cannot get a stronger, better-backed warranty, anywhere. When you buy a gun from Daryl, you get a friend as a bonus. He takes a personal interest in making sure you get the gun that is appropriate for your needs, and personally answers all questions. A couple of months after buying my first gun from him back in 1998, but wife and I went to Hawaii on vacation, so I asked him for advice on dive spots. He took us out on his boat diving. And this is not just because I have such a cute ass. I have heard of many gun buyers who got the very same treatment.

For several years, Rob Allen had a huge price advantage due to the strong dollar vs. the Rand, and several of my friends jumped on the bargains. But now with the value of our currency having plummeted, its my understanding that Aimrite rail guns are now cheaper than Rob Allens.

With price in Aimrite's favor, I would go for the open muzzle and the ability to use shafts with shark fins, among the other factors previously mentioned by others.
 
i am surprised to see nobody mentioned OMER's new open muzzle millenium models yet in this thread and in general. I see them in flesh and in action and liked it a lot. Anatomical handle option is a big "+" in my opinion too. Just keep in mind to not to overpower it and you will be fine..
