Well, I was planning on buying a new wet suit and trying to sell my old one. Times have gotten suddenly a little tougher financially so I have a new thought. Is it possible to recondition a suit so that it is as soft and stretchy as when it was new??

When I used to dive in my former life, we used a bathtub of either water and vinegar or water and a capful of woolite to get the salt out after a dive. I was pretty fanatical about taking care of my gear, but now after ten years of sitting in a dark closet, the suit seems alot stiffer and less stretchy than I remember. Is there any new stuff on the market or any time tested techniques for doing this??

My trouble is that my suit simply does not fit anyomre. I have bulked up considerably since i used the suit last.. The bulk is not all muscle, I know that... I have been doing heavy lifting for the past several years and am quite a bit stronger than in the past. My new fitness routine is going to concentrate on becomming as lean as possible. Even to the extent of losing muscle mass. I figure I can bulk back up later if I really want to. If I can get my suit "stretchy" again, I can fit into it sooner.

Thanks again.

Yo gman,

dont know whether it was my imagination (maybe i lost some weight) but i have bought a product called 'p;ss off' its manufactured by rip curl i think (will check later) and its for cleaning 'dirt' off your suit etc and it seemed to soffen up the suit a bit and it certainy seemed a little more stretchy. Might be worth a try?

Cheers,
Jim

Hey Jim,
Thanks for that info. I wonder if it along the lines of vinegar; Acetic acid vs. uric acid... I'll look into the stuff.
