Of course, using rebreathing devices for extended dives, much less breathing air pumped down a tube (hookah or "snuba") are NOT freediving in the sense of trying for breath-hold records. And they don't offer the bareback freedom and athletic endeavor or diving on sheer lung power.
On the other hand, they offer long, deep dives without any connection to air suppliers and that whole scuba establishment. You can get a device, take off by yourself and spend HOURS underwater.
I'm used to seeing hookahs used either in tourist traps or by fishermen (usually cleaning out beds of clams or scallops). I have never seen rebreathers used or talked to anybody who has used one.
What's the feeling, is this a "legitimate" form of tank-free diving, or cheating?
