Reccomedations on a speargun? Beginner

I am looking at buying a spear gun. I hunt smaller fish in northern Saskatchewan, Canada (walleye and pike) and just want a gun that shoots straight, is safe and not too expensive ( I don't want crap either) . I seen a nice JBL explorer 20 today for $242.00 at a shop in regina but I have since read on this site that JBL are not very good. Any reccomendations??
 
I've only caught Northern Pike with a rod, but I have shot Wahoo to 80 lbs.(Kind of like a big pike on steroids).
I would find a nice used rife euro x . The size would depend on your visibility,
how clear is the water your hunting?

I agree the riffe euro x is a quality piece of hardware, however expensive. Maybe talk to someone in the Wisconsin freedivers section as that is there cup of tea. Also check out Mako spearguns, awesome guns at a great price.
 

The water is very clear for a lake. I can see at least 30 feet down. on the one lake and maybe 15 or so feet on the other lake that I usually hunt. Thanks for the replies guys, I will check out your suggestions.
 
look up Mako & Rob Allen spearguns. good guns for the money, cant go wrong with either of them.
 
yes, i think the mako spearguns are a good buy for the money. from what ive heard, they have great customer service. i always ask for Dano. he was very good at helping me with the few items that i purchased.
 
yeah i always ask for dano too, hell help you make the right choice and will usually give you a discount or throw in some free shwag.
 
In Alaska I'm only allowed to hunt pike with a pole spear. My best last year was 10 lb (4.5 kg). If I were hunting with a gun, I'd be using my Rob Allen 110 or any of the similar guns:Mako, new Picasso Scorpion, Omer Cayman, or Hammerhead Evolution, or plenty of others.
