Today in the morning I received my C4 Mustang 3 (25) fins. Here are my first impressions: The carbon blades look amazing, the rails are higher than on my old Wahoos, the foot pockets are softer and feels more comfortable (a bit wider than the old wahoo foot pockets). Because of a cold I cannot even think of a pool session, so I am not able to say anything about the performance. One final thought, the foot pockets are brown :martial:naughty. From an esthetic point of view, it's a no go :)
best regards and have a nice christmas
Joerg

Hi Joerg

Hope you are back in upright position.
How is your impression after testing?
Agree with the brown color, and ask myself: "But why....?":hmm

Best regards
H!

Like it or not, brown+metallescent grey together are the must of musts in the 2009/2010 winter fashion collections. :girlie
God only knows if next year might be pink+avana or chrome yellow+sevres blue or whatever, but this year if you wanna look cool and fashionable, brown+metallescent grey is the way to go.

Ohoooo, in that case I will look forward to the season where turquoise green becomes hip again. I´ll then get myself a pair of these fins and wear em when going out :D

Pneumonia and breathhold is just not going along. Hope you´ll be better soon, and that you can bare the impatience to test your new fins!

Sorry to hear that. Speedy recovery, Joerg.
I hope this will only enhance the joy to return in water when you'll be okay again.

Hi Joerg,

I wish you a fast recovery. Please let us know what you think of your new fins once you get to try them out!

I just read a post on bluworld from Marco Bonfati, C4's owner, regarding the brownish color on the C4 footpockets and rails.

Coming straight from the lion's mouth, brown is out, black is in.

The post mentions that due to external factors, the C4 footpockets and rails will no longer come in that brownish color and instead will be offered in black. The new black color will be gradual according to the availability of stock. The quality of the material has not changed at all, specifically the softness and strength of the material remain the same. But the color is changing back to black.

Cheers,
Claudio

Sure, I think you have to have an account at that Italian forum for the link to work. Here is the direct quote, in Italian:

"Gentili Clienti a cari Amici,

Marco Bonfanti"

Cheers,
Claudio

Well, well, well.... What an irony!

Finally got a pair of Mustang 3 in the door last week (all black by the way, Spaghetti ;-).
There is just one small problem: Got myself a minor earsqeeze, which grew into an a fluid congestion in the middle ear, which send me to the ENT, who perforated my eardrum, and now the shit is infected, so no water for this one for a couple of weeks and therefore no testing of new fins.
Jd, these finns are cursed!:blackeye

Have you tried yours yet?

Very best regards
H!

Hello guys has anyone tried the mustang 3..
I hope that you have already recovered from your illnesses.
Vasilis

Dont buy em´ Dali; you´ll be struck by som kind of annoying and long lasting infection too!!! rofl

Jokes aside, it is indeed a really sweet pair of fins. I bought a pair of 25´s and use them for shallow water fishing (-10m) with a lot of surface swimming. No leg or ankle fatigue at all (as opposed to my Cressi Gara 3000LD). And on my wifes feet, they even helped her going 2 stiff kilometers in head side current in the Red Sea without any whining :girlie
So a very smooth and efficient fin, also due to the gigantic waterrails, which also make the fin steer very straight, and therefore makes it very forgiving for divers with lousy technique and week angles (like me for instance ;-).
There is quite a large angel between blade and footpocket, which makes the fin more relaxing to swim with, and give some extra force to the upkick; really sweet indeed, and the force distribution feels very even through out the entire kick cycle. I did have the pleasure of trying Linda Paganellis Spierre carbon blades. They have similar characteristics and could be a very nice alternative if you are really hard on your fins but insist on carbon blades, since the high rails on the Mustang will eventually wear out and is a 30€ (for 4 rails) spare part. Also I imagine that the flap will eventually be worn down to a point where the material will be so thin that it brakes. That is especially a problem if taking them to the pool alot since you slide the tip over the pool bottom/wall the same way all the time.
And speaking about using the Mustangs for DYN... They are perfect when going forward, buy at the turn, I´ve never tried a finn (including mono) that suck to the wall like this. So the usual turn technique is no good with these fins (but luckily there are more than one ;-).
As for the footpocket, it is as comfi as it looks! It is made for long and narrow feet but the lacing system makes it extremely flexible, so don´t worry. I bought a pair of 39-40 pockets for bare feet and a pair of 43-44 to use with 5mm socks. The second pair was a waste, because the lacing system makes the 39-40 fit better both with bare feet and with 5mm socks. So I have a pair of brand new 43-44 pockets for sale... ;)
Hope this was useful.

Very best regards

how much do you ask for the foot pockets? I have the c4 wahoo and they are great :) I'm a very happy customer

haha! herup, i remember you! funny that i'm reading this now, since only 2 days ago i got a pair of mustang vgr (from a very nice pair of good friends:), and i'm trying to adjust my finning from my spierres to the c4...which so far is a disaster, since the blades are longer and harder, and i'm so used to softer and less demanding fins.
hope you're enjoying your new fins:)

linda

MUAHAHAHA, hi Linda, a pleasure as always :D
Sounds like you got yourself a rigid set of new fins; what number? I remember when we talked about the potential style adjustment challenge with the Mustangs, you were mostly concerned with the increased width of the blade next to the footpockets and kickin' that part of the fin together. I assume it's not a problem for you after all? (it was never a problem for me).
Anyway, hope you're fine and well! I've send you a downloadlink to a very charming video of you hauling rope. If it should go on Youtube, I just thought you should put it there yourself rofl

Very best regards
H!

haha! funky video! unfortunatley i don't have a youtube account so i cannot upload it:)

the blades are not too hard (it's a vgr 81, i think they come only in one stiffness?), it's just that i'm too used to softer fins with an even earlier bend. but i'm getting used to them.
the rails are killing my ankles whenever i turn in the blue, since i'm used ot use the blades to help the turn, and now because of the massive rails there's so much resistance against the foot/ankle and i really feel it (i never turn on the rope since i'm only doing safety all the time).
