Hi There,

Im hoping someone here can tell me the names of some good dive shops in C.A.
Somewhere that sells masks and wesuits for freedivers/spearos.

Im an Aussie that will be travelling though California (multiple cities dont know which ones yet) in the next few weeks and was hoping there is 1 or 2 massive dive stores somewhere.

Thanks
Any help will be greatly appreciated :t

In West Sacramento is The Freedive Shop. Very nice, helpful people with a good selection of gear. You can check them out online.

Hey Bloke -

There is The Freedive Shop location in Hermosa Beach, CA. as well but in my opinion, they suck!!! Way too much inventory with way too high pricing. Bad combo for those on a budget but great news for those that can afford to play golf.

I'm not sure if you are looking to purchase gear or just want to step foot into an actual shop but I would say "yes" check it out and "NO" to buying anything. Every single experience there has been negative on the part of their "staff" which I believe consist of 1-2 guys (owner+1). I mean seriously; who the heck wants to walk into a shop ask for the simplest of replacement parts and be told that the way I run my rig is not as good as the way they would do it. I'm landing fish with little-to-no effort but where are yours? AND I don't mean the old ass pics on the wall that came with the place when you bought it.

Simply put, that's why I purchase all my gear from Josh (Neptoniks), Eric (Sumora), Kevin (Hammerhead), Mike (Hatch Customs), and of course....all my boyz over @ HSD. Thank heaven for small favors guys!

All in all, I would refrain from buying but if you're interested in checking out a heavy overload of gear; then this is the place for you. San Diego also has a couple of shops as well that might be more hospitable (can't remember the names but perhaps try and reach out to the San Diegans in DB).

Enjoy your trip - A hui hou

Excellent selection, well displayed. Harry was very good to us even if we did not purchase anything. We are only in SoCal for tournaments.

Freedive Shop Sacramento. Call first since some have problems locating initially. This is where I got much of my gear. Excellent selection like Harry's store. Not as easy to browse items as Harry's Hermosa Beach Store though.

Freedive shops are not affiliated anymore, but have similar selection and pricing. Sacramento Freedive Shop has their sale in November.

Josh Santa Cruz Mountains
Inaccessible gated dirt road, small workshop with some displayed items. Telephone and on-line sales only unless invited up.

I am a big fan of James and Joseph.... They always hook me up! Everytime i go in there and buy something they take money off, plus damon and the boys know there stuff! If they dont have it there they will get it for you ASAFP!

There is a store in hermosa beach that is completely for spearfishing. the store has an entire wall filled with Riffe, Picasso, Cressi,.. and many other guns. the store also has every type of freedive fins along with masks and a excellent choice of great dive suits, both camo and traditional. I find the store to be the best around for a long area. The owner is really cool and very informative. this store is the nicest for freediving and spearos, sorry not very much SCUBA at all. The store is called "Freedive N Spear" and is located in hermosa beach, adress is 950 Aviation Blvd, suite # B, Hermosa beach, CA 90254

Sounds like Harry's shop. Must have changed the name. Does he still carry Picasso? I wonder if Picasso is being phased out in California? My above post has a link to the old name and address on Aviation Blvd.

yeah harry still owns theshop, it just moved down the street from where it used to be, still on aviation. he still carries picasso even though they stopped making guns (according to harry), but mainly all riffe guns. his shop is expensive, but he always seems to hook me up when im in there, and the price ends up lower than most other places. although i do wish he carried JBL products, he seems to think they're ***** but ive got some nice fish with the woody magnum.

yeah i have heard from the peeps that his prices are high, as far as JBL goes, i couldnt agree more, ive got some nice fish with the magnum, but there products do suck.

Sorry for the very late reply to you all...I haven't been on deeperblue since August 2010.

I eventually found my way to the Spear Shack @ 4810 Santa Monica Avenue San Diego,
They guys in there were extremely helpful, i couldn't have asked for more. Unfortunalty after trying on about 5 wet suites none of them fit perfectly, So I left with just buying a snorkel.

Try Spiros over at diveskin.com. 215 bucks will put you in a custom-fit to your specs, 5mm, open cell wetsuit in black, green camo, or blue camo. I'm going on my 4th season with mine and hasn't lost a thing since day one (except for the tear in the chest from doin da skeaky puhi on the reef in Palos Verdes). In my opinion there isn't a better deal around even on ebay and craigslist. Feel it out and see. Turnaround time is generally a week. Good luck - a hui hou
