Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and sport. Can anyone please reccomend a scuba diving mask. Will a freediving mask work for scuba?

Thank you,
Jeff

Yes it will work fine. Pick something with a good field of view though like a Bigeye or an Omer Alien. You don't need a low volume mask but I have heard of some tech divers having them as backups in their drysuit pockets as they are so small. So basically pick something that fits well and has good vision.

Some tips for selecting your mask:
Clear silicone masks offer the advantages of being translucent, allowing for light penetration and creating a more open feeling. It is also softer and more comfortable than rubber. Black silicone is the preference for some hunters and cave divers. It eliminates any light penetration from the sides and allows the diver to focus solely on what is in front of him or her, therefore, eliminating any distractions. Low volume masks are easier to clear. You have less distortion because your eyes are closer to the lenses. However, you may not have as much peripheral vision.
Some masks have side windows, which give the diver better peripheral vision. Purge masks have a one way valve that allows clearing the mask of water by simply exhaling.
The MARES X-vision Liquid Skin Mask is very popular and fits just about everyone.
For Medium-Large Faces (110 lbs+)
Silicone skirt is 45% softer and 270% more elastic than what is typically used by other masks
A truly unprecedented field of vision
Revolutionary Ergonomic Quick-Adjusting Buckles
Buckles optimally positioned directly on the skirt resulting in more comfortable seal
Liquid silicone – The highest grade silicone available for a soft comfortable seal
Ultra Low Volume
COLORS: Blue Fog, Yellow, Red, Pink, Blue with Silver accents, Yellow with Silver accents or Black Silicone with Silver accents

go to a reputable dive store and try them all by far the most important thing is fit i defintely recomend a black skirt and stay away from the tinted mask i tried one and it really limits your vision and sucks for night diving
