Actually dynamic with a scooter under the ice sounds like a lot of fun...And you know, it would make a great media event. And while you're at it, why not "certify" it with guinness or whatever. I'm not saying it should be an AIDA category or anything, but it sounds like fun and I wouldn't mind trying it my self. Getting all the holes done and safety in place is an achievement on it's own.

My beef is not with the diving as such, but the way it is portrayed and marketed. The shameless manipulation of the poor unknowing press (which should check their facts, but...) and the self proclaimed messiah stuff...The made up stuff...Plus the wrecklesness of it (at least according to the statements). That I have a problem with...

simo you are welcome next winter ...

i hope that i am invited for the big gala, mayby i can give daros gray his award? that would be cool - or?

Yes there are a lot of ways to promote freediving.

Christian.

1) What are the rules for UV-Icehockey?
2) Where are the breathing holes placed?
3) Describe the sticks?
4) Do the freedivers walk on the ice or do they mostly swim? Fins? Weighting?
5) What are the timelimits?
6) Size of goals?

PS I suggest we keep the expression "doing a Redl", it has a nice feel to it. Who knows - it might turn out to be an expression that means something positive. Under water icehockey seems to be a good "Redl".

And I dearly hope I am nominated for the "Redl award" in view of my eager PR for the Relay-team-static category

I have to give Christian credit for responding like a gentleman and facing the criticism!
I am impressed!

1) What are the rules for UV-Icehockey?
everything is allowed, fist-fighting, bodycheck :) only thing which is forbitten, don´t touch the mask of your enemies ... the rule is as follow: each team has 2 players, the 1 player has the stick and go after the start-signal under the ice, if you want your team-mate come later and chance the stick with the first player ... there is only one stick in a team. the field is 8x6 meters.
2) Where are the breathing holes placed?
each team has his own holes on the side of the field.
3) Describe the sticks?
original icehockey sticks
4) Do the freedivers walk on the ice or do they mostly swim? Fins? Weighting?
they swim with our freediving-fins ...
5) What are the timelimits?
3x10 minutes ... you can stay as long as possible under water :)
6) Size of goals?
original icehockey goals!!!

photos und video on my homepage!

'DWK' Dynamic with kilt
sounds a bit suspect I thought it was dynamic with kit so figured the next one would be dynamic no kit ( birthday suit ) guess it wood get the headlines anyway but who would be brave enough to attend if the diver with no kit blacked out

I have to agree with Erik on this. He has been a very good sport! I would love to come over and do the ice hockey thing, but no time or money at this point.

While on a recreational diving trip in 2003, I borrowed a scooter from Kirk Krack and circumnavigated the entire HMCS Mackenzie -- a distance of more than 250m, and this was at a depth of over 30m! The water temperature at that depth was about 7C -- does it count as a record?

The scooter was very fast, I was travelling at more than 2m/s and the dive took only 2'40".

It surely was fun but I wouldn't call it a 'record.'

Eric,

I'm sure you have been holding your breath a few times testing the new batch of F1s. Perhaps you could claim:

The APNEA world record -Apnea Produced New Electronic Apparatus world record

We already have "unashamed constant ballast", Peter Pedersen (DEN) has done about 35 with nothing but mask on.

great thread

just a disclaimer - none of the Brit Freedivers that I know (and I think I know most of them!) have ever heard of Daros Gray or seen him train.... we deny all responsibility I see has learnt that old trick (in the Times article)... if you want to boast about your freedive ability but are actually not much cop... always quote your depth in feet!!!!

I hold the record for the Longest Escalator Ride Breath Hold on the London Underground - The Angel, Islington.

where is the info that he failed? and failed in what exactly? surely if he got in the water then he succeeded given that he is trying to beat records that don't exist?????

I claim the 1,980 inch freedive in the Red Sea.
Peace,
Erik Y.

he was in a DRYSUIT!! omg
does this guy know ANYTHING about freediving? does anyone out there know him?

thanks for the link.

So according to the news we have a new record:

DYNAMIC APNEA UNDER ICE WITH SCOOTER

NEW WORLD RECORD

25 meters

DAROS GRAY

This breaks the previous record of 150m set by Christian Redl!

Congratulations! It appears that the 2006 CHRISTIAN REDL AWARD was well deserved!!

In fact, I'm thinking this performance is such a great achievement that the award should be RENAMED to the DAROS GRAY AWARD.

The 2006 DAROS GRAY AWARD goes to.... DAROS GRAY ....!

Daros also mentioned he tried to set a static 'record' under ice in his drysuit, and aborted.

Maybe he didn't want to accept that the existing 'record' for static under ice is 6'30" by Wim Hof of Netherlands with NO WETSUIT.

Similarly, compare them:

Dynamic apnea under ice:

Wim Hof: No wetsuit, no fins, 50m
Daros Gray: Drysuit, scooter, 25m

So what was a quest to prove that a human can perform under stress in extreme environment - was aborted due to....... stress and extrem environment.

OK I think the guy has felt enough contempt.
Lets not forget that he has killed a 5 meter long shark alone (or rather a 16 foot shark).

Is this true, is it confirmed. In icy waters - no suit? Are there any details to be had. How does the body react to something like that?
