Is there any good lakes to dive around the Red Deer, Calgary area? Me and my husband will be there for a weekend in August and wouldn't mind getting a dive in. Thanks for any suggestions!

Twin Lake is a nice spot north of Red Deer that scuba divers and we spearos go to a lot. It's relatively clear usually for an Alta lake.
It's west of Pigeon Lake about 50 km or so I believe, quite small but a beautiful spot.

You could also head out to Banff for some mountain lake diving if you are near Calgary. You may not find Twin on a map, so if you want detailed directions if you decide to head there, post a request.

Sylvan Lake is close by Red Deer but Twin is the best for pure freediving. If you do pass through Jasper by any chance do a dive at Horse Lake.
You can also dive in the Bow river in Calgary if you want a quick dive.

If you're not hunting, then head for jasper or Banff. The lakes are clear and beautiful. Lake Annette is an excellent place to freedive with lots of fish and easy access.

Thank you for the input! What mm suits do you usually wear while lake diving?

5 mm custom wetsuit. I usually wear 5 mm gloves and socks as usually my feet and hands are the first thing to get cold. I usually am diving around the thermocline so the extra warmth is welcome.

I have a 3, 5, and a 7mm. A custom 3mm freediving suit will be fine on sunny days for an hour in the water or more, as long as it fits properly. I use the 7mm exclusively now as the sessions are longer and the thermoclines can be brutal in some of the lakes.
