Going to Red Granite on Friday July 28. Hoping to be up there by 8 or 9 and stay until 12 or 1. If work schedules can be juggled we'll be there until 2 or 3.

Some other folks are scuba diving, I want to freedive but need a buddy!

Help an aquatic brother out, come freediving on a beautiful day.

Working on a weekday is for suckers, save that for January! :t
Plus, that illness you'll get on Thursday really shouldn't be spread. :naughty
Drown those germs so you can return safely on Monday.

Now were talking- freediving buddies ion Wisconsin!

I wish I could go with you, but we leave on the old family vacation so I'll be out for at least a week. However, if any of you find yourselves up in the Minoqua area I'll be in the water there all next week.

Jon

Hello Jon, Tol,

I'm new to the forum. I'm in Milwaukee and am looking for some people to go freediving/spearfishing with.
I don't have my equipment anymore so I need to buy some. Do you guys know a good place?

Detari,

Tol is in Milwaukee and I am in Madison. Too bad you weren't around a couple weeks ago because we just had our annual dive weekend up in Lake wazee- look up Freedive-A-Palooza III.

No one around here sells freediving gear so you need to go on-line. Check out the Scubastore connected to this site. You can also look at PirateScuba.com and other sites through a quick internet search.

I prefer Elios wetsuits and SpecialFins monofins, but there are tons of threads on here about gear, with tons of different opinions. I may have some extra used gear if your interested- amazing how that stuff builds up in your closet until your wife finds out. rofl

I'll be off-line for a week, family vacation time, but Tol, or others from the area, can answer some questions in the mean time.

Jon

Detari,
I'm no help to you on the gear front. I'm so new to freediving that my opinions about gear and where to get it are essentially worthless.

With that out of the way, diving opportunities will abound later this summer. I'm in the Milwaukee area, as are a couple of other guys on this board. Anytime you would like to get in the water, drop a note to me and you'll have a buddy! There is serious talk of a few different trips in the next month or two, you would be welcome on any of them.

If there is anything I can help you with, say the word.

Tod,

Thanks for the reply & good to make your acquaintance. I am leaving tomorrow for a month in Greece. I will return in September. Hopefully I will have all the gear by than and we can do some dives.

Cheers,

Done! Good luck on gear, have a wonderful time in Greece, and look me up when you return. By the time you return I'll have a much more regular schedule and would love to find a regular dive buddy.

Hey, why aren't you bringing freediving gear with you? I'd be finding gear asap and diving there!
T

No time to buy it here, I'm leaving tomorrow. I used to spearfish when I lived in that area, but left the gear behind when I came to the states.

I will probably buy the gear there and do some diving/spearfishing.

See you in September

Tol,

How was it up there- was there any vis at all?

I just got back from a weeks vacation in VIlas county witht he family. It's hoem to the longest chain of freshwater lakes in the world (28) and has more every place you turn. There is almost nothing to see below 25', where the thermocline was, so I stayed above- and was treated with 78 degree water! I brought up all kinds of gear but spend most of the week in a 2mm vest.

I'll post some picutres later, but the lakes are a real crap shoot. Some have that tanic colored water from the trees, which means vis of less than 5', while others are crystal clear and have 40' vis. There's no spearing allowed up there:head but lots of fish to see- including record sized muskies.

Jon

Vis was junk. About 5' in most places, opened up to around 10' below 60'.

Sounds like you had some fun diving!

Hi guys,

Looks like we have a Wisconsin thread going. We should all try to keep in touch on where the good freediving places are. I had a good time a couple of weeks ago at Lac de Belle in Oconomowoc. Visability was great. Smaller fish, but it was nice to see clear water. Good to be in the water with my sons.

Good Luck spearing/freediving

Gene from Oshkosh

My new suit should be in soon so I will join you guys, if that is ok :martial

I have a shark dart I am dying to try out on those muskies! rofl

Anyway good luck and safe travels everyone.
