Red Mullet ? Any ideas for cooking ?

I am proud of my delicate, refined & sensitive taste buds that's why they remind me of stinky crab pot bait!
I caught a big one on my birthday last year & decided to give it another try - I wont be killing any more & that's for sure.

Tonight we had fish for tea from my stock in the freezer.Only a few meals left now. I had small plaice fillets and some mackerel fillets. Wife had same plus a bass fillet. It was absolutely delicious. The mackerel was particularly good which is a bit suprising being as it is 6 months old. It all went in very fresh and was well frozen so I suppose it is not too suprising and compared to the manky stuff the fishmongers often have on offer, then there's no comparison.

Personally not fond of red mullet but it's okay-ish. Know lots of people who rate it though.

One of the contestants on Masterchef cooked red mullet - a couple of nights ago.. they were cut into fine strips and decorated with all sorts of la-de-da salad and then drizzled with balsamic. It looked superb!

I think you can make virtually any fish taste like red mullet - using bass as an example - just kill it & leave it in the fridge for about one week or until suitability decomposed & putrid & there you go = red mullet!
Or go to a local fish monger & ask for last weeks best non seller = red mullet!
You could also join the local trout club & eat some three day old trout = red mullet.
