Just joining this great page. I'm a spearo from Colombia and do blue water spearfishing on our pacific coast, great places to see and shoot big animals! I have a Mares Cyrano 110 cm, 2 old super powerfull Mirage 100 cm, a 110 cm Beuchat w/ sling bands and a Arbalete Champion with double sling bands.
You guys are more than welcome to Cali so we can go spearfishing to these great places on our pacific coast.
Best regards,
Pacho

pacho, i live in usa and i would like to go to Colombia.....do u know where we can go spearfishing overthere.....close to san andres o cartagena? or cali? and if we need a license!! please let me know as soon as u can!! thanks:)

You must have a Artisan license to spearfish. Only Native born Razial people who depend on spearfishing for their livelihood can spear. No blue water fishing that I know of. Providencia has better spearfish . Last week went with some boys and speared over 35 fish in half hour. But same rules apply.

is that goes for the pacific also? or only in san andres and providencia? what about bahia solano? is it safe for americans? thanks for ur help

I live and dive San Andres and Proviendcia don't know anything else but here. Do know that these Islands are the safest place and the cleanest clearest waters in Colombia. We have over 400,000 tourist per year and not one has been murdered yet. Petty crime yes but nothing major.Have read and talked to others living in Cali etc. and they say very dangerous for Gringos depending on where you go. I never leave the Island only for the mainland to change planes.:friday

You message comes at a very opportune moment Pacho ! Myself and 2 x Finnish friends and thinking about coming to Colombia's Pacific coast in early Dec for 2 months. If we come it would be great to meet you and travel/fish with you. Can you help us with some questions:

1) Safety; we have travelled all over the world and also through central America (Costa rica, El Salvador, Mexico etc.) and we wonder how safe Pacific Colombia is for us. Without knowing too much about it I guess we'll want to head to Nuqui, el valle and Juanchaco and similar isolated places with good fishing and surfing ??

2) Fishing; what kind of fish (Im guessing Pargo, Sailfish, Robalo, Roosters, Amberjacks) and how big and how plentyfull are they ??

3) Weather; how much/many days rain can we expect in December on the coast ??

Best regards,
Squinty

Hi Pacho,
Yes I have your reply. Thank you very much - you replied within about 2 hours of me posting the mail !! Brilliant.

I am on a research ship in the middle of the North Sea right now looking for a Methane gas vent....we have 1 day before hurricane Katia hits us when we will have to run for cover. After this work I will return to Ireland for the hurricane season and surfing in Oct. and Nov. and then I think we will travel to Colombia at the start of December. We aim to stay for 1 month and Christmas and would like to fish and surf most days (and parties of course). Where do you think it would be best for us to base ourselves on the coast ? Nuqui ?? or somewhere smaller and quieter like Juanchaco ??

So, it all sounds just fine in Pacific Colombia....we just need to be careful...I have been in Northern Ecuador (Mompiche) and I imagine Colombias coast is similar. I will be coming over with Jukka and Igor (Spearfishing friends from Finland) who are very, very enthusiastic spearfishermen ( their website is -=( Team Kampela )=- All About Life and Spearfishing ). They will be very excited, as am I, at the prospect of joining you to fish on your boat :)

Best regards,
Richard
