Relocated Aussie in Euroland, any tips!?

Hi fellow divers,

I'm in Germany/Luxembourg but grew up on the south coast of NSW, where I learnt to spear and surf. These days I keep active with other sports but am sooooo keen to get back in the water. You wouldn't believe the withdrawal symptoms of being without ocean contact especially in the first few years without.

I moved here 10 years ago and it looks like I'm staying. You may question my sanity but that's how it is. It's very rare to meet anyone here who spears for obvious reasons so I guess this forum is like a line back to that world.

So, cutting to the chase - despite the difficulties I plan to get to the ocean sometimes. Figure I can do one or two fly and freedive/spearfish trips per year. And I am curious about where would be good destinations, Greece? Portugal? I never did an official course before and thinking it might be a good refresh and way to meet people, thoughts?

Greece is a very nice place to visit and dive in but you won't catch any fish. So if you want to catch something, especially some good game I'd say it's not worth it sadly
Canary Islands is likely your best bet, good visibility with pelagics. As far as I know there are people organizing trips there and there are guides

Sad but realistically it's just as easy to fly there instead of Greece... Have you been? What season is best and what thickness wetsuit would be needed? Shore diving spots?

Welcome. You might learn a lot from Dan Mann's many spearing videos. He too is Australian, although now lives in Britain, and has become a member of the British Spearfishing team and is now Team Captain! Over-achiever?!

He has toured European spearing locations and produced videos on them - ideal for you needs I would think?

There is also a young chap on YouTube called, something like, Dawid Pesca Submariner. He spears around the Canary islands, usually/often from shore. I find his videos truly inspiring - he gets some massive fish, often (but not always ) in relatively shallow, shore conditions! He's my Spearfishing hero!

Wow, thanks! Yep there is a lot to learn and unpack there. I've got some watching to do! Starting to sound like Canary islands is a safe bet
