i've been on this forum for well over a year and i JUST now noticed that some people have sent me rep points!

can you believe that? i didn't know what that was until i logged into my user CP. goodness, i hope they didn't think i was taking their kindness for granted.

:head

anyhoo. i have some people that i'd like to do the same for.. how do i send someone points?

i looked at the FAQ, it explains what they are, but not how to actually send someone points.

lol i reallllly hope the answer isn't right under my nose.

thanks in advance

In the upper right hand corner of each post, you'll see three icons. The first is the post number, the second is a pair of scales, and the third is an exclamation mark in a triangle. The scales are the reputation button. Click on it, and it'll give you the chance to leave reps, and a comment if you wish. The exclamation mark is used to report bad posts. Hope that helps :)

oh my.. i thought rep power was built on like i dunno posts.

i still don't know how to send someone rep points tho.

someone gave me some REALLY helpful freediving pointers a few days ago and today i found out rep points come from other people sending them to you.

it may sound petty, but over the last year or so i've had a lot of people give me pointers..

the least i can do is give them a few rep points or whatever it is.

jeeze..

i didnt even SEE them until i went to change my avatar.

i had no clue like 6 people or so sent me rep points. i just dont know how to give them to others, but now i really want to.. as thanks.

island_sands..lol where are you?

Go into your User cp (control panel). The button is at the far left at the top of the page. There is a panel at the bottom of the user cp entitled 'latest reputation received'. The left side of the panel tells you which post you received rep for, the center tells you who gave you reputation, and the right side is where you can read any comments that the giver gave. It's not mandatory to leave comments, so that space might be blank.

Hope that helps :)

I remember when I first joined DB the reputation was called carma and there was 'good carma' and 'bad carma'... it was complete mystery to me
Then I received my first good carma and it was sent by Alison :waterwork .

This reputation is one of the best things in DB. Definitely better now when there is no 'bad carma' to spread ;)

My point was that we have all been there monofin_diva :)

I have had the same, took me a year to figure this out, and to be honest, if I press on the scale, no points show up, just comments...

Ah yes, the good and bad karma. It was a similar system, but calling it reputation is much friendlier. Plus you can see who is leaving the rep, while people used to get away with 'karma sniping' because you didn't have to leave your name.

And it's amazing how the stuff builds up. People on this site are so generous and easily amused that they send you "rep" for some of the most innocuous remarks. Admittedly, the occasional winner recipe helps a lot, too! ;)
