I bought a mares instinct pro 75, and used it all summer, recently though the part of the mech that holds the line has gone loose and does not lock to hold the line tight, been on the mares website and predictably no help on how to take the mech apart on there.

Pictures attached to show which part of the mech im trying to describe

Any advice on how to take apart/repair or website that will have info ?

Hi mate, just found this..... Yeah I've just found the same problem with my gun, theres a little piece of plastic that gets pushed out when the spear is in the gun but seems to have worn which means it sits under the spear instead of beside it... Have you worked out how to take it apart? I've got the handle off, then a pin that holds the loading pad bit out, then you can take a small phillips screw out but then what? the top of the trigger mechanism must come off but I feel that I'm forcing it a little too much and don't want to break it!!! I'm sure that I can glue some cable insulation or something to it to elongate it just can't get to it.... Did you ever work it out? how did you manage I see this was posted last year... cheers

Hey,
Still not managed to fix it, when i last tried the only thing I could work out was holding on the top cover was a nut which you can see down a hole just in front of the trigger guard.
It is incredibly annoying as you probably know it means i have to have the line really loose so it can be held.
I have set myself the project of fixing it after i finish my exams in 10 days time. I think im going to try and stick a screw down the hole which i will screw into the nut and use that to pull out the nut, that the only help i can offer as i did exactly the same as you whenever i have tried to take it apart.
Il let you know if I manage to get it apart.

Hi, right I've worked a few things out.... firstly don't buy anything from Falmouth dive shop cause when stuff goes wrong they don't want to know and tell you its your fault!!! secondly after that reaction even though the gun is still under warantee I realised that I'm better off fixing it myself! So..., I've took it completely to bits to work out how it works and this is what I've found. Take as much as before off, then the safety splits into two parts with a little o ring on one side. Then to get the seemingly impossible bit off, get a 2" M4 bolt and simply keep threading it in to the reel mount hole underneath....(well I assume thats what it is) I know it sounds harsh but it is the only way, Its been driving me mental for the past few days and am glad that the sea conditions aren't any good for a session. This bolt will push the trigger mech housing up and out of where it sits so you can get to the line release.... I've tried making a sleeve to lengthen the worn part out of a beer can (funily enough) and am waiting for the araldite to set overnight so hopfully I can reassemble the fixed gun tommorrow..... Give me a day or so to put it all back together to see if it works..... Hope that helps!!!

So it was that something to do with that hole. Not got that sort of bolt at uni so will have to wait till I get home. Can't wait to finally fix it, looking forward to hearing how it goes. Conditions in Wales are blow out atm so not able to get it anyway.
