Repowering a 90cm Sporasub....need input

I was thnking of repowering my 90cm Sporasub, it came with 22cm bands and want to replace them with 19 cm bands to give it more punching power...what do you guys think? The gun came with 16mm dia "H. Dessault" bands, could I use a different brand and get a 20cm band or will this cause the barrel and shaft to flex. I'm new to euro style guns and need help! Just move up to 18mm or 20mm bands of the same length as the original.

The 90cm spora is my favority gun, I use with a single picasso 19mm band , 22 cm lengh.

Definitly 19mm bands, or 2x 16mm, if quick loading isn't a matter. A change of shaft won't be a bad move too...

Ask any "Hawaiian" about re-powering a Euro gun and the first thing they'll say is change to an open muzzle style.... you can ask Fuzz he's got like 5 of my muzzles (but he won't admit it on this forum). Advantages of Open Muzzles have been hashed on this forum many times over. Of course like anything else there are pro's and con's but check-out some of the open muzzle options from Darryl Wong, Wendell Ko, and HammerHead Muzzles. If you gotta buy new bands why not change the muzzle, you can do that for just a few dollars or euros or remmibis more than a new set of screw-ins.

After writing this now I know why there're called "Screw-in" bands because after you buy them your're "SCREW'ed-in the Wallet!!!"

HHead I looked at your muzzles online and I like them, will they fit my Sporasub Black Viper? I prefer the Reef style over the HHead style but will it work with my gun. If so which one do I order a Reef A or B? One more question....do they sell your muzzles at Florida Freedivers, if not, were is the closest rep to the FL Keys. Thanks for your input.

Right now HammerHead Muzzles are sold at all the dive stores in Hawaii. Unfourtunately that doesn't do most people on this forum any good but there is a small webstore on the HammerHead Muzzles website also complete with installation guides etc. For a Sporasub modification both the REEF-B and HHEAD-B muzzles would work perfect you can see examples of modified speargun by clicking the link below. Good luck with whatever you do "Srew'ed-In's" or "Open", HammerHead or Wong!!!

If you like to keep your gun as it is (that is 100% euro-style with screw-on bands) and you have access to European brands get a pair of Megabooster 20mm bands about 25cm long.
Tip: Get rid of the steel wishbone. Get the bands about 2-3cm longer than mentioned above and cut-off the lower part where the wishbone screws on. It adds useless weight and it acts like a parachute which makes the shot slower, weaker and noisier. Then make your own dyneema wishbones.
As for the shaft it all depends on the way this gun is going to be used. If you hunt in caves you need a thick shaft (6.75mm-7.00mm) that can take some abuse.
For faster shots with a bit more range but with not much contact with rocks a 6.5mm shaft will do.
However using an open muzzle with multiple or single bulk bands as mentioned in the previous replies is also a good idea and in the long run it will cost you less.
