Results from Renens 2005

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
It is confusing now with the Heats and finals system. It does actually say in the AIDA rules that only the results from the final count, and not from the heats. For most it's not a problem but a few had worse perfomances in the final then they did in the heat. It does look strange in the final results a person coming in 9th did more then 7th & 8th. :duh

I wonder if a WR was set in the heats would it count ?
It's still early days with using heats/finals, there may be a few changes to be made that may help.

Cheers,
Wal

Agreed, there is some confusion.

But I really liked the new system. It makes it much more interesting and the final heat with everybody starting simultaneously is much more exciting to watch than the traditional way. If the you ever want to gain popularity for this sport, this was definately a step in the right direction...

It also makes preparation much more interesting, since you have to save some strength for the final.

Sorry,
I know the rules... but it is not a good idea. It is unfair. It is a shame for aida, if we dont honor all valid performances for the ranking...

for example: pawel from poland did 139m (dnf) in the qualification and a bo in the final. In the official ranking he has no valid performance. He is on the last place and he has nothing for the aida ranking list2005...

The same problem: christina schon (static), lotta ericson (static), yamina (dnf), mitja (dnf), malgorzata (sta) and many other athlets...

Wolle,

It's the same rule for everybody, point 1.30 and 1.31 in rules.

...and don't talk about shame, everybody follow the rules and if you push so you BO in the final, it's your own choice.

Pawel did a chance to 146m in the final, but didn't make it...

I was talking about how nice it is for the spectators that there are finals, where all athletes start at once and you can follow the events as they unfold.

I do agree with Wolfram somewhat, or how would I put this...I don't think you should compare results in qualifying with results from finals. So in that sense, athletes would only be ranked from 1. to 8., those who were in the finals.

The other results are good for AIDA ranking, but "out of scope" for the actual event. Ie I cannot claim "I was 10th in the world championships". I was dropped out from the WC. Someone who gets DQd in the finals is also "out". What I can claim is "I made 6:35 and was 10th in qualifying". And the same for Pawel "I made it to the final with 139m, but was DQd from the World Championships" and of course he would get 139 in the AIDA ranking. So in that sense, qualifying is qualifying. Finals = championship.

I don't know if that made any sense to anybody. I'm not talking about how rules are currently, but how I feel they maybe should be in the future...

there are the rules, but it is really fair?

actuelly the qualification and the final are two seperate perfomances:
pawel didn´t 146m in the fnale. he was bo.
but he did 139m in the qualification.
still the final he was better then all the other 40 athlets.
he wasn´t it in the final. in the final 6 other athlets are better...

in the end: he is one from the 8 best athlets in this comp (maybe with 0 points in the ranking). and he did the 139m for the aida-ranking2005.

what is the problem? who will say that is wrong? the rules should only help to be fair...(sorry for my english)

My personall opinnion.

Under "DNF - FINALS" they should only list those who were in the finals. Ie the list should have 8 names ranked in positions 1-8 and no one else. This is the official result of the world championship...

Then either as a completely separate list the results from qualifying, or not list them at all...

In my mind those who didn't make the finals didn't "make it" to the competition. They tried to qualify and they were ranked out. No reason to mix their results with the finals...

So the list should be something like this:
Official results DNF - MEN
1. Stig
2. Alexey
3. Wolfram
4. Panos
5. Jonas
6. Henning
Disqualified:
Pawel
Mitja

And nothing else...
