I really do not understand what is and how do you perform a reverse pack...

I pack very well but I haven't seen anyone reverse pack... can anyone explain the technique?

a reverse pack is simply exhaling mouthfuls of air out of your lungs after you cant just force any more out. what you do is breathe out as much as possible, then close your mouth and make a kind of 'humming' sound in your throat. If you do this right, then air should come into your mouth. Once you fill your mouth, let it out and keep on doing this until you feel your lungs begin to tighten up and it becomes difficult to remove any more air

tell me if i didnt explain it properly

No, you only use your mouth/throat.

Try this:
-Exhale all air you can
-Grab your nose (to make sure air is not coming from your nose)
-Fill your mouth with air without opening it.
-Push the air out with your cheeks/tongue
-Repeat untill you feel your chest tightening

If you keep your nose shut and lips closed, there is only one way the air can come. If you feel you're struggling or moving something below your neck, you're doing something wrong...

I find it easier to perform reverse packing than packing...

Try this thread:

The concept of reverse packing is to use the mouth as a pump to extract air from the lungs. If you drop your jaw whilst:
- lips are shut together, AND
- nose is held closed OR soft palate is raised, AND
- epiglottis is open (natural state)
then air will be forced from the lungs into the mouth cavity. THEN:
1. close the epiglottis
2. squeeze cheeks together, allowing air to escape between lips.

I have done tests where I dived to 10m, exhaled everything then reversed packed to the max. When I returned to the surface I still couldn't exhale ANY air, meaning that I am capable of reverse packing to less than half of RV. Exceptionally useful to equalisation (more so than carpa inhale packing).

Cheers, Will.

hey I got it!!! I empty my lungs rather well iusing that thanks!!

btw I noticed your picture and you're doing a udyhanna banda or something...

caould you explain that also?

Uddiyana should 'happen' naturally when you reverse pack if your diaphragm is relaxed.
Otherwise you can pull the muscle up after a full exhale (think of sucking your stomach in and then up under your ribcage). There are variations that involve isolating and flexing different abdominal muscles whilst holding the bandha.

Hmm...yesterday I reversed packed about three times just to see what it was like (I'm really new to the sport), and today my chest hurts whenever I exhale or inhale fully. Anyone knows why this is? Is reverse packing dangerous for beginners?

Need a bit more information. Were you diving? what depth? Were you full exhaled or had at least a partial breath?

Like most anything else in freediving, reverse packing can get you in trouble, if its used wrong.

Nope not diving just walking around. I would say partial breath but obviously that was gone when i started to reverse pack. Ill be sure not to it again im pretty sure this is only temporary, nothing serious. Thanks for the reply

Under those circumstances, its unlikely to be anything like squeeze, more likely some muscle strain from a combination of movement and very reduced lung size. Should not be anything to worry about, but, if it continues for more than a couple of days, consider seeing a doc.

Every time i do packing or reverse packing (on dry land) i get the same feeling in my throat as when i had a squeeze only there's no blood, and i'm wheezing if i try to exhale a little bit more forcefully. Should i be concerned ?

You can really hurt yourself packing or reverse packing, even at home and dry. I would not do it any more, but instead wait until you can get to a freediving course or workshop with some qualified people to go through it with you.
