Are you planning to use the Teflon to line the groove?

I was planning on one stage to put a 100mm piece on the front end of the gun, seen it on some picks.
But I guess It wood” if been best to epoxy the Teflon in first, then router the groove in one go.
Didn’t want to bore you with making a Colet adapter for the tip to fit the mill, took me more than an hour.
I am planning to make more guns, so maybe install a piece in the next one, if it is worth the effort?
Got some 150mm long pieces of Teflon lying around.

I use mainly Neptronics tracks (& their superb safe triggers). http://www.neptonicsystems.com/track.php
I don't think you will stick Teflon with epoxy anyway!
How do you intend to finish the gun... epoxy is a glue & not a very good choice to top coating.
A lot of builders use poured epoxy tracks though, you make an oversized track slot, fill with epoxy powder mix & re route the track.

Yes, I would not recomment securing it before you varnish it.

Yes, I am a bit stuck or not sure what to do about the track. What size is the best to slot it oversize and then re-router?
I’ll give the Teflon bit a miss. Suppose you can use a square bit for the epoxy, need some help here??

Cut a square or even better a dove tail slot (look at my link in post 63) fill the slot with epoxy & micro balls (or other thickening product) & recut the track.
If you are just using a shallow grove then all of the above is hardly necessary .. just jut the grove, paint with epoxy & sand smooth with some wet and dry paper wrapped around a length of steel the same size as your spear.
Shallow tracks are not critical to spear size, allow 1mm oversize...ie 7mm spear 8mm track.
It is when you get into enclosed tracks that things become a bit more size sensitive.

Thanks for that info, will use both at some stage. This one gona have a shallow track, the bit a made is 8mm, my spear is 7mmm. That one worked out fine.
We went diving yesterday in very bad conditions, well tried to, came home with nothing, the viz were +/- 1M and 2.5M swells.
Worked a little bit on my handle.

I” am keeping the other handle for a gun without a stainless inner, will epoxy it in with the rest of the gun.
While I am building this gun I am planning the next one, well more or less, with some of the idée’s you have given me.
Or keeping it in mind from the start.

Epoxy the handle, made the front bracket 3 in one. The idea; to strengthen the holes for the rubbers, bracket for the line and if needed for a second loop.
Going to slot the tip and epoxy it in the centre, hope it make sense.
I know it will make the gun a bit heavier, but will try and sort it out later, got a few ideas.

Haven’t done much, but here is the over all look from the side. The next time consuming part is the jacked for the triggering mechanism.
Had to do some real work in between and if the weather in proof or rather the swell gets a bit smaller DIVING is next.
We had another go yesterday, got smashed all the way, gave it up after 40min of fighting the big swells.

Awesome handy work there! Just amazing the skills some people possess. How's it all coming along?

Hi, been diving – spear fishing a lot, going to re-start next week again on the gun. Made my boogie board float – works well.

Just wondering, this may be a dumb question. In the first photo what is all the paper? I'm going to be laminating my first gun blank soon and wondering best way to go about it

Hi there, the paper was only there for the epoxy not to stick to my clamps and the 2 blanks together. Paper sands of very easily; I notice some guys use thin plastic paper.
I am going to try and weigh my gun in sea water with everything on it this week to test for buoyancy. Still need to ad some wood at the back and front. The more you spearfish, the more you realize how important it is for your gun to float with out a spear.
Thanks for the advise you guys gave me.

Your gun looks very well built, functional, practical & strong but perhaps not beautiful.
