rig diving in deep blue

okay, when you are rig diving, should you use a float? I know using a float not around rigs is a good thing to do, but, it seems like the float line would get tangled up in all the pipes and cross members, and cause an entangelment hazard. What about a line from your boat? Still, this seems like it poses a hazard, but not as much because it cant move. All you expereienced rig divers let me know!! Even if you arent a rig diver, what do you think??

Surface currents can get a bit rough at the rigs off Long Beach,CA
I don't use a float, just don't forget your fishing license and
knife for the scallops!

So, if tyhecurrents get pretty strong, and you are freediving, how do you keep brom being swept awy in them?
 
kick and stay close or under the rigs, it seems like
they break the current a little. Most of the time
the current is strongest near the surface, so I try to
spend most of the time underwater. Don't get the wrong
idea that it's all gnarlly out there, it depends on the
day and it's usually not bad at all.
