hi guys,

my new speargun has just been delivered in time for my hols on saturday.

problem is im unsure how to rig it up!! ive looked at the dummies guid but they are using monofiliment lint and crimps which i dont have. the gun did come with a few meters of black cord.

is there a way to rig this gun up using just the black cord??

also, looking at the dummies guide, the monfiliment length is approx 3 times the gun length, so on my gun, it would be 2.25m. so all in all from handle of gun to tip of spear, the overall length would be approx 4 metres.

is this the max killing distnce for this gun??

Hey Beesley, i have the same gun as you and before i rigged it with mono i tied one end of the cord to the muzzle gun using a bowline knot with a stopper knot to make sure, then run the line from the front where it is tied to the gun down to the line release at the back then back up to the front and through the hole in the muzzle from the front and run it down to the back to get the right length, dont cut the cord yet though. tie the cord to the hole in the back of the spear (i used another bowline) leaving a long tail hanging out of it. then load the spear into the gun to check that that cord is the right length, if it isnt you can just re-tie the knot to adjust the length.the cord needs to be the right length so that it doesnt fall off the line release but you are still able to load it. once you have the right length cut the cord and melt the ends with a lighter to stop fraying. i hope this helps.

thanx for the reply mate, will give it a go

if u have the same gun, am i right about the max killing diistance?? at what distance do you regulary take fish

A pictures worth a thousand words so try this. Click on the picture for a better view.

2 metres from speartip to fish is a good max range. It's a mistake to make long shots as you'll wound fish rather than kill them. With experience and practice you'll get closer. Many shots I make on even wary fish like bass are from ranges of less than a metre.

Dave.

I've also just brought this gun so that picture is very useful. Thanks for posting it. One thing that concerns me is that its bloody hard to pull the rubbers back cords any distance and I'm worried I won't be able to load it. Do you need to be a superhereo to load the gun or is it more about technique?

It wont be a problem loading the gun in the water, its much easier than on dry land - dont load the gun out of the water its just asking for trouble.

You will find it is a lot about technique & commitment.
You will find the bands will loosen up a bit too after they have been stretched for a hour or two.
Good luck with your first hunt.

I'm glad to hear it's easier to pull back the rubbers underwater, so thanks for comment.

I didnt think I had to mention that the spear was nowhere near the gun when I was trying to pull back the rubbers on the gun! But I guess it's wise to repeat this mantra to anyone you think might try to load a gun on land.

this is with out words
