There is obviously a problem. Where did you buy the gun?
There are places with lots of reefs and very clear water where the typical gun is used as a free shaft gun (no line).
It isn't for the typical spearo.
If you bought the gun on-line, contact Cressi and ask them about your problem. You may be able to get a new shaft from them.

I was curious and found a video of a guy rigging a Mokan but his spear had a hole for the line.
