Hi guys,

I've taken up spearfishing recently so I would greatly appreciate your feedback. I own a Beuchat Marlin Carbone and I'd like to rig a new reel.

What are your opinions on the following:
1) Should I remove the shock absorber bungee when connecting the dyneema line to the spearshaft?
2) Do you eliminate completely the nylon filiment (which comes standard with the speargun) which connects the shaft to the speargun or should I simply retain the standard rigging and attach the dyneema line to the end of the shaft?

Thanks in advance :wave

The most common alternative is to remove the bungie, keep the mono shooting line (it's faster), and connect the end of the shooting line to the reel line. A simple knot with a loop to undo works, but most seem to use a pigtail or clip.

Thanks hteas for your reply. Will do as you suggested! I had second thoughts on retaining the bungie as it would probably slow down the shaft due to its impact absorption prior to the reeling out of the reel line.

Cheers :)

Thanks for the video Jean-Luc, it's very informative. I really appreciate your help guys.

I'm gonna try rigging my speargun with the shock-absorber and we'll see how it goes from there.

We dive almost exclusively with reels here in Hawaii. You still want to have one to two full wraps of shooting (monofilament or dyneema) line before the reel line. Your reel line generally doesn't start until beyond the range of the gun and there for a bungee will not slow down your shaft. The reason I keep the bungee is that if I know I am going after small game I crank down the reel so that a small fish cant pull out a bunch of line. Its a Pain in the a$$ when a little reef fish is able to pull of 50ft of line and then you spend the next 10 minutes winding it up while all the other little fishies are laughing at you.

hi

it's just a way to assemble. you must adapt your installation to your spearfishing grounds.
