Hi guys,

I went for a dive this afternoon and upon rinsing my gear I noticed a rip in the open cell inside of my pants around the lateral calf area. I don't understand how it happened as I put plastic bags over my feet and lubed up before putting the wetsuit on? With a rip on the inside is wetsuit glue going to be sufficient and will I be able to fix it myself, or should I get the pro's to do it. There is a local shop near me that make alterations and do all sorts of stuff. It's only my 2nd dive in the suit, I will say that I was getting smacked around a bit on the rocks this arvo, but I would have thought this would wreck the outer not the inner?

Any suggestions?

Hi:

Get a hold of a good brand of black rubber adhesive.
It's easy enough to mend a small rip especially on the inside.
I have experience the same problem with my open cell wetsuit.
I have experienced good luck by using the Picasso black rubber adhesive.
It is very strong, durable, and very flexible.
I know you can purchase it off of Picasso America Freediving and Spearfishing Equipment Specialists 1-877-WETSUIT (1-877-938-7848) for about $14.00 bucks , american.

hope this helps

good luck & hey, have a great day!:)

While taking off my open cell/smooth skin wetsuit, I poked my finger right through the waistband-area. The rip was all the way through the suit. I used "neoprene cement" on the inside and out of the rip. Worked like a charm!

AquaSeal has worked well for me and is pretty easy to find around in an LDS

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the replies, I got seal cement, it seems to have worked pretty well, even for a first timer like me. I had no idea just how soft and fragile open cell was/is. I'll be a hell of a lot more gentle with my suit now, thats for sure!!! But some rips are gonna happen no matter how carefull you are, and all I can say is thank god for rubber adhesive cement stuff:D
