Rob Allen usually sets up their railguns carefully. I would refer to their factory settings and tables of rubber lengths. 
E.g. I think for 16mm rubbers they suggest half the barrel length (or possibly half the spear length?) + 10cm.
But note: they use only bulk rubber with only a small diameter inside hole.
