Hey I am a newbie to the board but not to diving. With winter storms and high surf are pounding the coastline I am looking to modify my Rob Allen Carnax 900 with a open front muzzle. I don’t do a lot of spearfishing but I don’t like the large muzzle head on my gun. I’ve heard great things about the Omer XXV and the HammerHead open muzzles has anyone used one or the other to enhance their Rob Allens?

Thanks

I don't own a RA gun, but I installed a hammerhead reef muzzle on my Sporasub gun and I'm very pleased with it. From what I've been told and read, the hammerhead muzzles work well on the RA's as well. Take a look in the photo gallery of the hammerheadmuzzles.com website. There are photos of a RA with the open muzzle.
Ron.

you can also check rabitech's open muzzle. Since the two brands have the same barrel type...
Let us know what you chose and how it works...

Anybody have a link to the Rabitech open muzzel? That sounds pretty interesting.

If you can wait for spring, Rob Allen will have a new open muzzle. I wrote to Rob recently asking about open muzzles and he sent a drawing of the new one he is going to be producing. It looks a lot better than the alternatives (I have a Hammerhead on my RA 110). I am waiting (impatiently) for mine.

Sorry for the wait, but I just got word back from Rob Allen that, since the muzzle isn't in production yet, he would prefer that the drawing not be made public.
I assume that when they get close, photos of the muzzle will start apprearing. Until then, I'll be using one hammerhead muzzle, and a cut down RA muzzle on my 2 RAs.

I had a spare RA muzzle and tried to cut it into a single band open muzzle. Unfortunately I just butchered it...

Ron,
Worst case you can order another RA muzzle from Florida Freedivers and try again ; )
Just cut the top off, and notch the front of one side to use for a line wrap. Works good: looks ugly (at least my job)
My first attempt I cut the wings off, making it a one band muzzle. My second attempt I saved the wings, and just opened the top, so i could see the spear and keep the main band away from the tube at the same time. I think there is some loss from friction along the tube, but can't prove it. Rob didn't think there was a problem with the band sliding along the tube, but his new muzzle is still likely to keep the band off the tube on the new gun.
But I'm really just playing until I see the new RA muzzle in person.
