all the info I need to know and how to use this in the best way? Shoot from point blank? How far can it shoot to still be affective? Everything and anything cheers ...
 
First, get as close as you can. You will be more sure of a killing shot.
Second, from your hand you have about 75 cm of gun length, then 150 cm of shooting line, and finally 100 cm of shaft. That comes to about 3 m from the end of your arm, with a little to spare.
Third, try to make a stable target you can use (like a piece of foam or thin plywood and 2 weights to hold it still) and practice.
The best place on most fish is just behind the head and on or above the middle of the body for a holding shot.
Then go out and try it
