Hey fellow spearo's, i am having some trouble deciding what RA band setup to get. I am getting a RA 100. If anyone could give me some help i would greatly appreciate it. Have a good day.:)

The gun comes without bands then?
I would start off with a single 18mm screw in band set up but, this is a personal opinion as some folk might prefer two 16mm bands?
It would depend on what you intend to shoot, how good the visibility is or how much time you want to spend loading.

If you have standard RA muzzle, you may put 18мм or even 20mm. I use 1x18mm single on my 120 and 2x16mm on 130. My RA130 is for blue water, 120 with reel for reefs. BTW, those set ups are standard on RA.

You also need to take into account spear diameter.
A 6.6 shaft works really well with a 16 or 18 mm band (what I have on my 100). If you are going with the 7 mm shaft, one 18 or 20 mm band would be best.
On my 110 with 7 mm shaft I am using 2 X 14 mm bands, giving a little more power than one 20 mm band.

UncleJake

It definitely is still very accurate (like RA guns are known to be)

I used the 2 X 14 because I have a bunch of it from an old bulk purchase, and by the numbers, it provides about 10% more power than a 20 mm band (I used the numbers provided at Spearitco.com). Its' also easier to set up with the Hammerhead muzzle I have on that gun.

One 20mm rubber has slightly larger cross-section than 2x14s. So you'd expect the 20 to be more powerful, all other things being equal?

^ I dunno, but I went up in shaft size on my old 115 Sporasub Viper, so I changed from 1x16mm rubber to 1x20mm rubber. The gun became terribly inaccurate so I changed back to 1x16mm (still with the big shaft) and the gun behaved well again.

Good to hear you do not have the same issue Hteas. I now have a RA110 and I must admit I don't really like it. Mind you, I don't like my Euro Riffe either. I miss my Viper.

two 16 are more powerful, but one 20mm band is alot faster....and it does create a cleaner feel to the gun.

I had my 120cm setup with one 20mm, to the specs of the website, and a reel....very good for deep reef and small pelagics...

at 100cm, almost every gun shoots the same, its IMHO the most accurate length...

Its important that the band be placed correctly, leaving both sides equal....I would use a lubricant to place the band in...

good luck!

Mullins,
If you include the hole in the middle of the tubing, 2X14 cross section is 0.472, and 1X20 is 0.467, so technically more.
I fully agree that the variability in the tubing diameter is greater than that, so meaningless to compare except to say it is 2 ways to get more power than the standard 1x16 that comes with an RA gun with 6.6 mm shaft.

UncleJake,
Sorry to hear ypu aren't happy with your RA. They aren'tr as light as some of the real euroguns in the waterwater, but I guess I've adapted to the feel of mine, and at this point ahve no desire to change. I have heard that the Omer HF and HF II feel much lighter, so might be more to your liking.

The holes in the middle of 20mm rubbers must be a lot larger then!

Call me soft but the single 20mm band on my 1.2 RA gives me a sore sternum if I load it lots - despite having a chest pad on my elios. Never had the problem with a pair of 14's on my Riffe Euro. Could be to do with the shape of the handle too I guess.

You are right, I find the RA110 nose heavy.

Mine is being re-barreled with carbon and some ballast next weekend so hopefully it will improve. I also hope to do away with the RA open/closed muzzle and fit the more traditional closed muzzle to help stop the shaft banging around

Rob Allen are alittle heavier on purpose, it takes away recoil. Most euroguns use one 18 mm, or two "long" 16mm bands, with a 6.5, or 6mm shaft.

Rob Allen comes with 7mm shafts, or 7.5....

2-16, or 1-20mm

Rob Allen shafts are also alot heavier and made from a better steel....

I find that omer, Picasso, and other "chrome" finished shafts bend very easily...

Trygons, Spetton , Demka, Bleu tec make really good 6.5 shafts

Dave,

Sorry.

I went back and checked the numbers. I used 9/16 inch (14.29mm) and 25/32 inch (19.884mm). Funny how the little rounding errors add up.
