on leaving my local dive site DOROTHEA last weekend we got talking to some tec divers who were entering the the water.
we got talking to a great guy he was actually registerd blind
we got talking about were abouts the tunnels are and the deep spots in the quarry which we discovered was 106m deep.
the guy was helpful in every way and we couldnt help but feel in awe of the guy as he was so confident and knowledgeble of the quarry despite his inabillity(i wont say disabillity) to see .
he then asked us who was using the platform which had mysteriously apeared in the quarry in the last months and who was littering the bottom of the quarry with large blue IKEA bags .
it became apparent that there is a diver using the quarry (diving alone)
on the platform using the IKEA bags full of slate to pull himself down (variable) to his depth and then discard the bag creating a hazard to marine life and other divers.:rcard:rcard:rcard

i have since heard which diver it might be and i am putting this post on here to see what i should do about the moron or even better if he has the balls to come on here and explain his bloody minded irresponsibility :head:head

My Suggestion is to see yourself in his position and consider for a moment how difficult you make it psychologically for this apparently ignorant chap to change his ways.

First off I would just have a friendly chat, share some good moments, see what's the guy is like and built some trust. In the mean time think of an affordable alternative too. And consider that things might be a bit different than your first hear-say / impression is. (maybe the bags are biodegradable for instance, that would change things a lot wouldn't it?)

I'm sure you know that the human way of dealing with each other is to first politely ask at an appropriate time, and after you've got enough certainty of ill intent you can be more firm and pressing.

Good luck helping your fellow man keeping his and our environment safe and clean.

Love, Courage and Water,

Kars

ps. I'm sorry to 'patronise' I just felt with the post I saw here of reminding us, before we get too emotional and hurt each other too much.

Or you could find out where he lives and start dumping all your house garbage on his lawn.

Then invite him over for dinner and poison him!!:)

Only Kidding! Kars is right.

Guys, just a reminder that we should not even be naming people without knowing for sure if it's them. Too much gossip, not enough meat, whoops, fish in this case...:)

I've taken the name off this thread - I think it's not wise to publish names when we aren't 100% sure that the allegations are about them.

The British freediving community is quite small and close knit (even more so with the Dorry divers) so it's probably best do deal with this other than in an internet forum.

Cheers,
Ben

I am not sure I get it right Jay: a blind man told you that there are Ikea bags at -106m?

I do not quite understand why would he do that... if he wanted to dive repeatedly wouldn't he just tip the bag over, let the weight fall (making sure there's nobody below), and bring the bag back? Ikea bags are not for free.

As Kars said, better to approach him with a smile. Give him the benfit of doubt: maybe he lost the bags, maybe he needs to find a better way to secure them, or to improve his approach to variable. Maybe he turns out to be a nice new buddy.

no mate the blind guy told us the deepest part of the quarry was a 106m
then asked us who the idiot was littering the bottom of the quarry with ikea bags assuming he was part of our group .
and yes the guy was registerd blind id say very slightly partialy sighted and guess what mate unlike the moron on the platform he didnt dive alone he was part of a large diving club.
and your suggestion on how he may be diving is wrong ive stated that the guy fills the ikea bags with large peices of slate and uses them to pull him down. leaving them at the bottom.
maybe he can join your group and maybe then you can hoist his lifless body from your quarry and maybe then you will not be able to use your quarry anymore .
the guy in question was kicked out of our group for reasons similar to this after numerous requests to behave ...if you endanger your self you also endanger your buddies.
