i was wondering if a load assist (a band with hook like the one rob Allen makes) could replace two stage on a roller gun.
Has anyone tried this?
Is two stage better?

It is pretty easy to make your own bridle arrangement, you could experiment yourself.
It largely depends on the length of your gun.

I was thinking of makeing it 100 or 110 wood and was wondering if I could get the same power with a load tool as a second stage

Can you link the device you mean or describe how it works?

I more economic way would be to do a strong double bridle where you first load the back bridle then load it a second time to the main wishbone.

I owned two of the rob allen loadassists for my longer gun and they do the work well but they are very easy to loose and when not using it you need as safe place to keep it like a D-ring with carbin hook on the belt or something which sometimes can get in the way or tangle if you use a floatline to your gun and not to mention that the clip on the D-ring will make noises while diving.
Some people suggest to keep it around the upper arm when not using it, the first time i tried this i lost it when i was focused on retrieving a fish and i didnt notice it slipping off.

Thanks
I think I would be best of with two stages but the load assist could work
With my roller guns, I always use a shaft that has a rest tab about 400mm from the blunt end. This allows you to pull the bridle off the muzzle and load onto the rest from the hip, then move the gun to the chest loading position to pull the bridle onto the back tab...thus elimating the need for any tools.
I have a mate that uses a load assist and he clips it onto the shark clip on his gun handle. He shot a decent kingfish one time but as the fish was spooling his reel, the assist managed to get caught up in his reel line somehow and jammed it up.
