A pedantic question perhaps - but what do you all view as the OPTIMUM thickness of rope for CW and FI?

At SaltFree we currently use 14 mm which is quite thick, good for grabbing but not so great for handling (it only just jams into the Ascender we use to hold the bottom plate and is a nightmare to tie knots in and not everyone's lanyard carabiner is always big enough......)

I am about to buy a new rope and wonder what everyone thinks is best - I am veering towards 12mm....

FYI we use non absorbent pre stretched yellow (lobster pot) rope - we have been using it for a year and a half and it has not stretched a cm - I wonder why not everyone is using that? (it helps when your dad is a commercial fisherman!)

amazed no one had an answer on this - got 12ml - bit thinner than our old 14ml but it works better with lanyards etc. I'm happy with it. Plus it was about £60 for 200m.....

I went the other way - 16mm static kernmantle rope, a dream to grab. I have an extra large steel figure 8, which moves the line well. I just tie big knots - used a noose knot for the bottom weight.
