After talking to different people and checking some result lists, it seems as it is possible to partisipate in team WC with only one or two athletes as well as a full 3 person team. Does anybody have some detailes about this?

The reason for this question is to figure out a way for myself and my danish friend to join the WC in Hurgada. In Denmark they have so far only two girls who's able to go, and in Norway I'm probably the only girl! I'm also interested if someone has information (rules etc.) about the possibility of a mixed team...

Any help would be appreciated

Regards,
Elisabeth

The rules says this:

1.7 All athletes must be in possession of a passport from the country they represent.
1.10.1 In International Team Championships the number of competing athletes is fixed to three per sex from each nation [abbr.]

So it's pretty strict. Two solutions are possible:
* Either apply for a change of nationality to Danish for the sake of one competition (no no, it's been done in the world of sports in the past, though it's kinda ridiculous...)
* Apply AIDA for allowance of mixed national teams (eg. Norway/Denmark) if it's deemed that individual nations can't raise three athletes for a full national team.

The latter I personally don't think will be allowed, since it'd screw up the idea of team world champs...

Hi Elisabeth,

I just checked the rules and Chris is right - there have to be 3 team members for a Team W.C. entry... Greece has also been looking into sending just two athletes in the female team but I guess we'll have to look into it again or talk to AIDA Int.

I also have to agree with Chris that it would not be logical to allow a multi Nationality team because then you could just create a winning team for example a Stepanek-Coste-Nitch team... which would just mess up the whole idea of a World Championship.
One thing that would be possible I guess is to allow a single entry with AIDA ranking performances but outside the team championship ranking - but I guess this is up to AIDA Int to decide.

Please let us know what you come up with

Cheers Stavros

People have sent mixed gender teams before - I think that would be your best route. Unfortunately you end up competing against the all male teams!

When I saw the thread name, I thought it is about something completely different. Well, I give you my advice anyway: try to avoid sharing the WC with your team as much as you can, especially if it is in Egypt. Better, try getting a room with your own toilet. If having a team WC is inavodidable, then I have some ideas for Rules for Team WC:
  • never more than two team members at a time in the same WC
  • for the sake of your security, keep the compulsory pause after a WC visit of another member of at least 15 minutes
  • always verify the presence of toilet paper before starting the WC performance
  • never stay in the team WC longer than about 90% of your static PB. That includes the time necessary for undressing and dressing
  • never hyperventilate before the use of the team WC
  • never use the team WC without notifying another member about the act
... well, that's just for the beginning. If you need more rules, I can try working on it harder.

Nice one trux

I also noticed that refering to World Championships as WC can be missleding :chatup .. Therefore I try to refer to it as WCh. But I think this is not what this thread is about.

I spoke to Bill Stromberg at the Summer Games in Greece yesterday and asked him if men or female teams had to have 3 team members. His answere was that a M or F team could have one, two or three members and it was also possible to have women in a mens team.

Thanks Stavros - that certainly clears that up

Cheers,
Ben

Thanks for the replies! And Stavros, that was also what I had heard, but didn't know what was actually right...

After a lot of stressing around, I've finally got together a norwegian team with two other guys. So we will have a mixed team this year, and I'm really happy that it worked out.
Since we're not the biggest freediving community, it's not too bad, but the main problem is that not so many people have the time/interest to compete. But after this weekends amazing work-shop with Martin Stepaneck, we've all got more inspiration I think... Maybe things are starting to happen in Norway as well

Elisabeth
