There has been a lot of talk about pneumatic spear guns called Nemrod or Seabear---both of them old, and not so good!! I have read a lot about these guns on US forums as well as European forums and for what I see---they have too many problems with both of them. Fish hunters that know me personally know I always go for perfection and performance in my passion of spear fishing. I started spear fishing about six years ago and up until two years ago all I’ve had was rubber band spear guns, (all sold now on eBay) all my hunting takes place at least once a week ice to ice, in lakes and rivers with fast current, and for rough fish like carp, here in Minnesota.

I am holding 190 pounds.
I started buying Italian pneumatic spear guns and rebuilding them (not much of the original gun left) by doing so I have doubled the killing range(my friends that go with me did the same) I can hit right through a 30+ pound Carp in a 10 feet distance or more---to the end of my line. I noticed that pneumatic spear guns have at least two times as mush power as a similar sized band gun, saying that you would need a gun twice as long to get the same power as my smaller pneumatic guns. I noticed that the best length of a Italian pneumatic for moderately clear lakes is 70 centimeters, that is 28 inches. Looking at the actual length of the air chamber, the Cyrano pneumatic spear gun is only 17 inches with Steen being a little more (A lot of wasted space!) Since I can read about ten languages and speak almost same I dedicated hours reading European forums about mid handle pneumatic guns that were used by many freshwater spear fishing champions in former Soviet Union as well as surrounding countries. I found about 30 mid handle pneumatic spear gun producers. They are very creative, some of them are regular pneumatic, some aqua air. That said, they pump spear shaft like a pump pumping water in a special chamber. People have made vacuum spear guns, spring spear guns and dry guns like Mamba, also called Taimenj. In turn, I notice a company from Russia that is trying to sell their gun in US as new Seabear with a spear locking mechanism in front of the gun called Virginia. According to the European forums those guns are not worth the shipping you pay for them. The most popular gun in Russia is called Zelinka. The bad thing about this gun is that there are no two guns the same, even from the same person making them!
All parts are made to fit a particular gun; this does not work for me in case something breaks down. So, after all this research and many calls to Russian freshwater spear fishing champions I narrowed my research to this one gun

Called (kayuk) from http://www.kayuk.ru/ (translate it through Yahoo! Babel Fish - Text Translation and Web Page Translation paste web name, Russian to English.
At a current rate the gun cost $242. I have
a 60 centimeter gun that is about 24 inches, but see the difference in air chamber length - 21 inches compared to the Cyrano 70 which is only 17 inches (more efficiency!)I noticed he makes different size guns starting 450 cm to 900 or any length any handle placement custom order. After explaining my fishing conditions, visibility up to 10 feet, carp in size up to 35 pounds, weeds and current, he suggested 600 cm 24 inch gun.

I was skeptical at first. Now, I have used it two times and killed about 25 Carp, biggest one 25 pounds, visibility no more than 9 feet, in weedy area. As I knew all mid handle guns have a common flaw: they all kick up when fired. That said, you need to aim at the bottom of the belly to hit dead center on the fish. However, there is solution to this problem: attach lead weight at the front of the gun or a Styrofoam block under the back of the gun, if you balance it right there will be no kick. Also, if any of you decide to get one of these guns I would advise you to get a bag for $46; it is padded with pockets and storage compartments.

Also, I would recommend getting one size longer shaft so you can install a single flopper and sharpen the shaft (No tips) for better performance and more speed.

Even with junk Mares spear tip that I used (Belarus border patrol did not let the original spear tip through) it hit through every carp in range up to 9 feet!
Overall, I have to say that I absolutely Love this gun! First, it weighs less than two pounds, I can dive with it all day and my hand does not get tired, it has a ton of power, easy to turn in current or weeds, and has a two year warranty. It comes with set of extra rubber washers for the entire gun as well as many other spare parts, in addition to the manual. And, not to mention, this gun floats without the spear in it. Golden prize for the best invention in spear fishing industry 1995 Brussels, Yury is two times USSR freshwater spear fishing champion and he has been building guns for the past 34 years. I highly recommend his spear guns. Note, for those hunting clear water, like over 10 feet; he has different guns for that manner.
