Sad and sickening

Erik that is heartbreaking If my town had a ocean I can only imagine we would have these same tragic events perhaps the examples we set can help people become aware of the enviroment they live in.

It's typical of society today, no respect for the environment or the people/animals in it!

I had no idea you were Scottish Erik!

:( poor baby, it didn't stand a chance.

I gathered a large snarl of fishing line in just an hour at my workplace. Ospreys have gotten tangled to the point of being unable to fly, and a baby duck was hooked to the dock a week or two ago. It really is a shame.

Pastor I was born in Aberdeen, Mum's from Shetland and I lived there as a kid for a time.

No wonder you have a fixation for mechanical Shetland ponies! Belive it or not, I also have Scottish blood - from the Grant clan. It was a romantic story of a sailor getting washed up on shore from a wreck.

I hope this doesn't involve a mechanical Shetland pony!

Nice one guys!

Not to attempt to remove the context of this thread which is no joke

Always thought that DB is a family: I've got some Grant in my blood too!.
And I know exactly where it's from:

LOL! No problem dudes, turn something bad into something good is ok with me
>8^)

Spaghetti,
It *must* be in your blood - the bottle is empty! :D

It's so sad Erik .. :(
For sure SMALL things make BIG difference, just how we can make more people understand this fact ?! most of them are in a state of denial !! stories such as these might awake them up, just it has to reach out wide!

Apparently plastic rubbish has reached almost every corner of the oceans, even thousands of miles from where it was dumped. :(

Too true Naiad, in fact we can trace ocean currents using human waste... :-(

I have a simple theory (aka karma), for every kilo of plastic bags I collect from the ocean, I get an equal chance at shooting a big Snapper (prized local species). The fact I have managed to spear to only 3 snapper in 5 years tells me I'm not picking up enough rubbish! :)

Our local spearfishing clubs also run an annual competition in ripping up invasive alga's.

The people who really benefit are ourselves.

I plan on doing lakeside interpretive walks this summer, and will bring garbage bag, some gloves, and a grabber to pick up trash. It's so sad when people dump their stuff everywhere.

I have invariably come up with rubbish in my BCD pockets whenever I dive, from plastic "6-pack-can-rings" (Blasted deadly things for birds etc.) to bags to an oil filter (UGH!) to a water glasses  to whatever I run across that isn't supposed to be there :vangry. I guess it compensates for the fact I am usually a little underweighted at the end of a dive..... My personal Fav, a 4 pack of D-cell batteries :rcard

Just found out that China's Yangtze River is so polluted that all life it contains is at risk of extinction.
CHINA Beijing admits fish in Yangtze River are dying - Asia News
China's other rivers are also severely polluted.
The Yangtze River system was the home of the Yangtze Dolphin, now extinct. I think it was also the original home of the Common Carp and Common Goldfish, two of the most adaptable, hardy and widespread fish species.
I don't know what to say. :(

On my recent trek from Oregon back to Eureka CA, I got a ride from a guy named Noah, a student at Humboldt State Univ. He's studying Chinese and Environmental Planning with the intent to go to China and develop sustainable cities and he mentioned the fragile nature of the rivers and coasts with the heavy pollution and industrialization.
