I shot 3 of these last evening. I knew they were prickly little guys, but I didn;t know the bastards were toxic! felt like my hand was on fire! I've shot them before (long ago as a kid) but don;t remember them being so painful

are they all like this? must admit they are damn tasty! was worth the burn!

no pictures as per usuall. but they look just like this:

ahhh this fish is my expertise.....

Yes they are all toxic, they hurt. Some effected so much that they can not even load speargun after several hit, for me it last few seconds rofl I think i am get used to it. But i am carefull with them, few months ago i shoot 25 pices of them and any one of them get sticked me rofl

I will send a few picture when had time for referance.

You should try to shoot them day time much more enjoyable :) Aspetto works extremlly well for those little guys :)

Remember that Spinefoot's produce a protein based toxin. Immersing the affected limb or area in hot water, as hot as you can take it (so be man!), will denature the toxin, and relieve the pain. Then worry about the scalds... rofl

I've shot spinefoot, strung 'em, and wacked myself in the butt when carrying the rig back to the car.

Did I mention I'm a genius? :hmm

haha - yeah - I thought about hot water, but I was floating 800yrds off sore and it;s a long swim back to find some hot water :D I just grinned and beared it :D

I think it was more the surprise then the sting that bothered me. I'll shoot some more for sure - tasty buggers and, VERY difficult to shoot. they flush like quail and we shoot them on the wing. great fun!

they once blow out my float while on stinger attached to it :duh

recipe,

Smoke them, souce with big lemon + virgin olive oil (1/2 glass) + some garlic

and while smoking them pour this souce on each side. Don't over cook them turn
them regullarly (2-3 times) on the coal and don't forget to add salt :) They should be cooked not more than 15 minutes :p
