Don't know if this has been covered in here already, if so I've missed it. I wanted to draw attention to a fund raise initiated by British Sam Still.

Sam Still won the 2005 Static World Championship in Switzerland with an 8'14" dive (link). In April 2006, he became one of the victims of the Dahab terror bombing (link), and he got lasting damage on his leg.

Following this horrid experience, Sam has chosen to run the 2008 London Marathon, just two years after the blast. In this context, he has initiated a fund raise, not for himself, but for the British Red Cross, which aided him after the blast. He hopes of raising £15.000 before the marathon on April 13 and you can make credit card donations via his website.

Check Sam's site Sam Still - World Champion 2005 (Static Apnea) for more.

Incidentally, I have no ties with this fund raise what so ever...

Cool, I'm in. Best of luck Sam - it's not a trivial thing to do even with a healthy foot - can't imagine what's it like with such injuries, but I'm sure you'll do it.

This is great, best wishes to Sam and the fund raising!

Note that the other freediver who was victim of the bomb attack, Brigitte, actually lost the lower part of her leg (she is mentioned in the early report by Lotta provided in the link only with a badly injured foot). Brigitte is still competing at several freediving events, and with good results considering the circumstances. What an admirable person!

Just a little bump for this thread. The Marathon is today so cheer Sam on and dig deep to support this cause, there's still plenty of time to donate.

Cheers,
Ben

Hello all,
I'd like to thank DB for the sponsorship. I made it round it about 4hours. the foot held out, but wow there are lots of other things that are sore now, blisters, aching muscles abrasions:crutch
I've raised £3,500 so far, for the British red cross, who helped me when i was injured by the bomb.

Hope your are all well
Sam

More to the point Sam, did you beat Borat and the Storm Trooper?

Seriously mate, fantastic effort. I knew a couple of girls who are pretty fit and they made it around in 4:45 so do do it in 4hrs is a pretty bloody huge effort!

Well done.

in the last few miles i got over taken by a womble!!! but did pass the Masai group early on

Well done Sam! I did give you a mention yesterday, but on the wrong thread ( Dan's Belugas ). Looked out for you from Hungerford Bridge for a while, but there were one or two others doing the run as well :)

Well done Sam,
A great achievement! I am well impressed and will travel over to your page to get rid of some of this excess cash I have.

Well done Sam!

For everyone else - I donated £100 from DeeperBlue.net to his fundraising efforts. Thought it would be nice for us to help him out!

Congratulations on finishing the Marathon mate! I agree with Papa Smurf ref: donation from DB.

Hey Sam, glad to hear you are doing much better since the incident! I have often wondered how you all fared and sent my heart out to you all towards the difficulties that ensued. I am very pleased to see you projecting a healthy energy and participating in nurturing events. Way to go! Much respect!
