Does anyone know where I can find reliable and up to date reports on condidtions in San Diego? The paper is never right and the lifegaurds phone line only reflects conditions at the cove and the shores. There has to be somewhere where local divers can post a quick sentence or two about condition on their last dive.

Man i wish, Ive looked but no results. If you find one please let me know ill do the same.

good luck, matt

I signed up for the divebums.com email list and it's had some good reports for La Jolla but you've got to weed through a lot of emails about other crap in order to find them. Sure would be nice to have one website where people can each write a one sentence dive report.

i used wetsand.com or surfline.com. even though the website are for surfing i check it out anyways. usually if the surf is big the diving conditions suck and when the surf is small like 1-2 feet the diving conditions are usually pretty good. wetsand.com is more accurate than surfline.com and wetsand.com also gives you future swell forcast.

I've also noticed that the visibility in la jolla tends to clean up a lot faster than north county. So the vis will be cleaner in la jolla than encinitas the first day after a a decent swell

This is one of my main tools for extrapolating how the conditions will be:
CDIP recent nowcast

Basically, if it's dark blue or medium blue I'm confident it'll be worth the drive.

Hope that helps.

you can also go onto the la jolla kayak fishing site which is La Jolla Kayak Fishing. go to the forum section, there is a kayak dive forum which is usually just either la jolla and north county, i.e. swamis. that gives you contact with guys that are on the water almost everyday. hope thats a help to you.

Hi Zero Viz,

It seems there are a few more local San Diego people that post on Spearboard than on Deeper Blue.

Probably better chnaces on getting recent condition updates there. There's quite a few people that go regualrly off the beach - both La Jolla area and also North County.

See you over there!

I guess this is a sort of late response, but for those in San Diego that also dive, the Divebums email list is exactly what you are looking for. As an example, today there were reports submitted about La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Canyon, Wreck Alley, and Pt. Loma Kelp Beds ...

The email list is also a great resource for foreign spots and questions about equipment, etc.

One thing to note, many of the people that are on the list are not shooters (other than cameras), so if you submit reports (which I sometimes do) it is best not to report on your results. For example, I just report the temps, viz, and types and quantity of critters I saw on the dive.

Cheers,
Mike
