Not sure if it is real, but I see an article at Underwaterchannel.tv speaking about a new world record of 100m by Sarah Campbell today (25th June):

about title campbell

Sara Campbell breaks 100m freediving World Record

On 25th June 2009 Sara Campbell, World Champion freediver and Red Sea Face of The Underwater Channel, has broken her fifth World Record by becoming the first woman in the world to dive to 100m on one breath.

What is strange, that there was no record attempt announced, AFAIK, and that we did not hear about it from anyone yet. Also, the short notice on the website points to a wrong article. So, I am not sure if it is not just a hoax.

Interesting.... are Lotta/Linda having a comp in Dahab at the moment? I seem to recall something mentioned about end of June but I could be wrong.

Cheers,
Ben

Hmm, organised by the British Freediving Association? First i've heard of it, and i'm on the Committee!

Anyways, moot point. Congratulations Sara on a magnificent dive! What a monumental achievement.

Cheerio,
Ben

As I see it, the underwaterchannel has prepared an item about the dive that Sara is going to attempt today. Many news agencys prepare articles in advance and the UWchannel probably pushed the wrong button so that the article got published in advance to their RSS feed.

Bill Stromberg mentioned on his facebook page that today could become a very interesting day.

There could be quite a few reasons for that ;)

In any case I shall revise my congratulations to a heartfelt best of luck Sara!!!

clarification:
the competition is today, and sara official top will be at 4.20 pm.

I thought Blue Hole wasn't that deep! Has someone been digging?

Any news? She should have dived by now, anyone got any text messages from Dahab? I gotta go to bed soon ;)

Ps. Moved this to the Freediving Comp section, somehow didn't seem appropriate in the Beginner section :D

No problem. Actually, I though I created it in General Freediving (not knowing at that time that it was a competition)

hi guys - she didn't make it. A problem, perhaps, with the lanyard. something technical that held up her progress, she blacked out a few meters below the surface. i understand she may try again Saturday.

i wonder if that's enough time to recover.......

good luck sara.

hi all,

sara did her dive, got the tag at 100, came up almost all the way, and had a bo a couple of meters below the surface.
woke up few seconds later and started laughing after having said "*******s!!"

all for now. she might give it another try after tomorrow:)

Hey everyone

Not sure how the UWC managed to leak that little piece of news early, but yes, I did have a go at 100m yesterday - OUTSIDE the Blue Hole. It was a beautiful dive and I TOTALLY enjoyed the whole day. Just didn't quite make it - oh well ....

I've re-found my love for the water though and will have to make a call later today as to whether I re-attempt again tomorrow (first ever squeeze, just a wee one). Not sure if the lanyard was the problem as I'm hearing stories now from Debs, who's editing the footage, that current might also have been a bit of a problem.

No doubt there will be news here once I've announced for tomorrow,

Thanks for all the fabulous messages of support, it's great to hear from you all
x

Good luck Sara.

Hope the 'little squeeze' is okay.

I couldn't be a big one though cos i bet your lungs are only about 2 litres ;)

Massive respect for the depths you are doing, hope you feel the love for a long time to come :)

Steve

Good luck if you try again tomorrow, we'll be in Chepstow thinking of you!

Glad you remembered the official post BO surface protocol!
