one for the canadian spearos:

Here is a 118lb sturgeon I took several years ago a ways off the spillway at miniwakaw campground where the torch river drains out of Candle Lake. this was breath hold diving in fast water, about 25' down.

I've had the chance to dive with a few 4' sturgeon over the years- catching rides on them is quite fun.

However, the biggest one I ever saw was while I was bike riding around a local lake with my daughter. I did my normal stop at the outlet to see if there were any fish there and I saw this swimming log! There was no way i could go diving, since I had no one to watch my child, so i called up my buddy, Ted, and told him to take off of work and go diving. He didn't believe me at first, but once he got in the water he got to dive, and photograph, this 6'+ old timer.

The only thing that was a shame is that he didn't have a wide angle lens on his camera, or another diver to pose next to it, so you can't really grasp just how big this thing was.

used to dive with lots in the Ottawa river. they were very bold and would make sure you knew it was"their" sandbar you were laying on. almost agressive. biggest BC sturgeon I've heard of went 12'

great pics Jon. that old boy is scared up good! from what I learned from the local Fish Bio guys the local sturgeon can live to 100+

Impressive fish. Sometimes people keep them in ponds. (Small ones of course!) I have seen tiny baby ones, about 10cm, for sale in water garden centres. Grow your own giant sturgeon to dive with!
