Saskatchewan, Canada - Eh!

Even though there's not a lot of spearfishing content (only have 2 summers under my belt), I thought I'd share some experiences of living in Saskatchewan, Canada. With over half a million square kilometres, over 100,000 waterbodies, and only one million people, there's a lot of room to spread out. There are some days hunting/fishing when I simply do not even see another person until I get back to the main highways.

Right now our lakes are frozen over, our birds are gone, and our deer are just trying to survive; the pictures are reminders of why I stick it out in 50 below zero. Since all the groundhogs saw their shadows (and thus 6 more weeks of winter), it seems like a good time to think of anything BUT winter

Hunting with old rags and plastic "Texas Hunting rags" as decoys. Proves that this tactic my grandfather did still works in today's push for technological change.

Hunting with the father-in-law. He has a fused back so we hide in something that has a little higher profile than normal. Still works well in Saskatchewan though.

The Spring Hunt. N. America in the last 10 years introduced a spring hunt to encourage hunters to get out and attempt to control the N. American snow goose population. The efforts really aren't doing much damage to the overall numbers. Still fun to get out though.

Tough to see, but the air is filled with birds too

Yummy summer walleye. This day was kind of funny. I shot the first one just fine but kept missing subsequent shots. Seriously, my problem was thinking about the fish fry that could result that night, if I only were able to shoot another. Needless to say, it took a while to get another.

sweet Jebus! that is the thickest rainbow I've ever seen! awesome. Nice Walleye too! my favorite freshwater fish.

we do a lot of goose hunting out here, but no snows for us. you don't post on CGN under the same name do you?

speaking of saskatchewan.. a few of us might be planning a spearo trip up that way sometime this mid summer. probably the saskatoon area, regina, or/and prince albert area.
