Hi Guys,

This Saturday I went to an early dive from shore here in Cascais really close to home, I was already in the water at 7AM.

Water is already warmer 18ºC at surface and 17,5ºC in the bottom (-10 mts), the weather has been very good over year, lots of sun, almost no wind, so I was expecting to find some clear water...my mistake! :head

To be honest I was a bit disappointed at first, the water was really murky (+- 2 mts vis) becoming a bit more clear from –8 mts down.

After 15 min. in the water I saw a big shoal of Triggerfish in mid water I caught a few for some fillet and...for the next 3 hours no more fish! I was becoming really disappointed. :vangry

Suddenly I saw a shoal of small mullets swimming like crazy, so I decided to dive to check out what was happening at the bottom, I tried to dive as quit as possible and just let myself fall to the bottom...and then...i saw a big bass resting between two rocks...it was an easy shoot from above right in the head...no fight at all!

As you probably know in my area its not common to find a bass this size in this time of year, so I was really happy with this catch especially because this year during the season I didn’t catch a single bass! So I thought I was jinxed :martialbut apparently I wasn’t. rofl

Cheers,
Marco

You lucky bastard! How come I never saw anything like that I was in Cascais? Did you take me to the wrong spots?)))

mmmmmm lovely bass, i can just picture it out of the oven and on a plate, time for my lunch obviously :):) Great Catch!

Awesome trophy!!!
Did you go inside the marina?

NO mate i'm not that crazy :blackeye...it was in the exact place we were diving with Nuno, remeber the palace and the old bridge?

I just went +- 100 mts further the light house.

Yes, of course, I do. That's where I finally speared a decent fish. Great place! Too bad waves and current made me seasick that day. I also speared some decent (by Moscow area standards) fish on Saturday. Chubs and a bream

First off, awesome fish.

He took you to your favorite burro, did he not?

Do you eat the chubs? Around here the only thing we use chubs for is bait.

Yep, we do - I eat everything I spear. Otherwise I don't kill it.
We have a rather poor selection compared to your fish paradise. In Moscow region, the most frequent trophies are chubs, pikes, orfes and so on.

Hey dont talk bad. Pike is AWESOME tasting, but we dont get to spear it here. Its also a bugger to clean if you catch one via other methods like Rod and Reel. I also eat everything I spear, with the exception of carp, which I technically still eat because I use them as fertilizer, along with all the other scraps from cleaning fish.

I am not saying they are all bad, I am saying there is a poor selection
and, yes, pikes are very tasty - we sometimes grill them on sticks on fire right on the bank of the river

Okay, I understand you better now. I would love to come over there to lay into some of your monster catfish. Remember the picture you posted on spearfishing.com of that one guy with the HUMONGOUS catfish? I want to shoot something like that. Probably no good for eating though once they achieve that size.
