Hi all,

This is an important note that the DeeperBlue.com Server is going to be moved from 18:00 BST / 17:00 GMT / 13:00 EST / 10:00 PST on Wednesday 31st August 2011.

This server move is important and we are moving to a new infrastructure to support our continued growth.

As this is a physical server move we need to update various systems including the DNS records of our server. As this change needs to propagate to servers around the world this could take up to 48 hours to take effect. During this time you'll possibly see out of date information on the DeeperBlue.com site and the forums will appear offline.

We'll update you all once the server is back online.

...and the forums will appear offline.

My wife will throw a party! :)))

I don't know the details of the move but a couple of ideas:

1. Could you somehow set the old server redirect all traffic to the new one while the DNS propagates?

2. If you are running separate db and web servers, you could point the old web server to connect to the new db server and there would be no problem with old data. Might be a bit slow depending on where the new servers are going to be.

Might be more things you can do if you wanted to avoid downtime, if you want PM me some details and I'll see if I can up with something...

Hahahaha! I thought my wife would throw a party too but even with them down i'll be working :)

I understand what your suggesting. Option 1 is a possibility and i'll look into it. The reality is we're moving to a totally new set of infrastructure and new IP's so we are reliant to an extent on the DNS updating around the world - which in reality tends to happen quickly (within hours) but can take up to 48 hours.

Do we need to notify respective governments about possible serious DB Withdrawl Trauma?

:)

No, but please don't tell our wives - they'll plan something horrible with all the spare time ;)

Things are still updating behind the scenes so normal forum traffic will take a few days to get back up to speed.
