Treated myself to a new toy. It was actually ordered several months ago but due to beeing ill I only just got around to unpacking it.

I have written about the topic of underwater scooters and asked for advice but in the end this is what I got.

Chinese manufactured copy of "SeaDoo" with depth rating of 30M (100ft) and battery life of 90 minutes. Two speed with fully encased/waterproof electronics. Metal gears and plastic prop/housing. Li-on battery pack (non standard extra). 220volt euro charger. Adjustable bouyancy housing/module, carry bag, spare O-rings and grease. Instruction manual, actually written in English and not a translation. Pressure pump, study packaging (arrived safely from half way around the world). Very comprehensive and better quality and sophistication than I suspected or expected.

Only cost under £150 (inc. Li-on battery pack) but as it travelled from China to Florida (USA) to UK to Guernsey that added another £150+. However, I believe the price direct from the UK agent (SeaDoo) would have been over £500 so good value.

I appreciate from comments in the past that serious scooter free and scuba divers would call this a "toy" but it claims a lot and if it only performs half as well I'll be happy.

My intention is to play with it just for fun. Then I want to see if it will carry me out (and down) on offshore freediving trips from the shore (it is VERY light). Lastly I intend to use it to explore offshore banks and wrecks working on scuba from my boat.

Trouble is all this will need to wait for me to recover from my illness. Keep looking at my spa/hot tub in the back garden but 8ft square doesn't seem big enough.

Dave.

So what you've bought then is a zimmer frame for freedivers? :t

Bodge a couple of guns on it and you can play at being James Bond too eh!

Lets see some pics then.

Smart looking bit of kit that Dave, You’ll be smacking into them flaties before they know what’s what!:)
Just don't let Maggers get his hands on it or it'll end up with 12 torchs an underwater jet engine and a 30 round semi-auto speargun taped to it.roflrofl

That looks like a cool toy there Dave!
what modifications do you have in mind so far ;) ?

must admit i have wondered about the idea of 'sledging' behind a kayak - a good way to cover lots of ground?

Where's the passenger seat and the luggage rack for your catch :). Looks like your going out sooner than you expected. When I was young, had a small flat/unsinkable skiff with a 2 hp Elgin trolling motor (fresh water). Used to tie off 100' of ski line and pull/underwater, a flat 4' x 6' board with reins and a rounded front nose. I could angle it and get down 30' in 2 seconds and level out and do a ck out dive. Also able to have a passenger along, was fun when I aimed for weed beds and we surfaced looking like some creature.

Thank you for the info. Please let us know how it works out for you, I'm very interested in your thoughts.

John
