I started diving this summer, and after diving 12 times I slowly start to understand how to do it. I been in Crail, Elie, Dunbar, North Berwick, Edinburgh.
Now, then my confidence in water is growing, I would like to dive for food. I tried diving for crabs, but i don't like kelp and you dont see big ones in open water, and Im far too noisy for spearfishing, fish can hear me miles away. I tried to dive for scallops but with no success. I was diving at low tide in few marks in east coast, but seen only empty scallop shells, velks and hermitkrabs.
Could anyone give me same pointers, how to do it?
My next try will be this Sunday in Loch Fyne.
Thanks, Ritvars.

Head out on a low tide in Loch fyne and search far and wide til you start finding them. Anywhere with sandy / gravel areas is a possible spot. It will take plenty perseverance and possibly lots of trips but you will start finding them event.
These were caught in that area recently.

At what depth, at low tide, do you start to find them? Are wind is affecting visibility in Loch Fine? Its hard to make lot of trips, too far away.
Nice picture. All by your self?
Thanks, Ritvars.

Went to loch Fyne this Saturday. Took me ages to find same suitable spot, all roads to beaches was private roads with no access with car, but after hour and half drive around loch I managed to find half decent beach which wasn't busy with scubadivers. Started diving at low tide and I was diving for 90 minutes. Managed to get 23 scallops. Biggest one 17.5cm, smallest one 13cm. Best dive so far.
Thanks, Ritvars.

I am after a buddy for tomorrow, I know that this is very short notice but would anyone like to join me for a dip? I was thinking of heading south east around Barn Ness lighthouse.

I aim for good buddy practice, one up, one down, surfacing with in arms length of each other, etc, etc.

Let me know.

Jamie

Really great diving at Barns Ness just now.
I prefer diving solo for safety but may bump into you there sometime.

Hi. Did you went for dive in 17.09?
In 18.09 i was west from Dunbar and visibility was terrible. And if that wasn't enough, came massive seal and stalked me. I wasn't sure if he is friendly so i cut my dive session short and finished my day in Dunbar harbour caching pollock on spinners.

Yeah, I was out on 17/09 - wasn't a great day really.
Seals are usually ok but they do seem to be getting bolder. Plenty fish around the light house just now.

The pictures and video is very tempting. I fink I will pop in for short dive this saturday morning, before i go to Loch Fyne. Otherwise i haven't seen decent fish, apart from dogfish which was following me for 20 minutes in Loch Fyne.
How did you mount you camera on your head, made your self?
