We've got a family holiday booked in Scotland in May and I was wondering whether to take my speargun as well as the climbing gear. We will be approx 15 miles inland of Oban.

Hi Spiderman!

There is some really nice diving around Oban (at least for scubies), BUT not sure about the spearing option. I have dived there a couple of times (shore and boat) and never seen anything worth shooting. Although there are probably some cod around, you are highly unlikely to see them and therefore pretty much limited to shooting pollock - not very good eating! On the other hand there are lots of scallops in Scotland - never dived for them in Oban, but imagine there are some good beds there. Not sure where you are from, but in May it is still going to be baltic (5mm suit absolute minimum) so depending on how much you want to get wet, I would probably focus on the climbing!

Hope that helps
