I lost my speartip in a recent hunt, and am determined not to repeat the mistake. To secure the speartip, I wonder if I should use glue or loctite, or it would an overkill? I do want to be able to switch speartip in the future, but am concerned that without strong bond between the speartip and the shaft, I'm going to lose it again, or at least have to check it from time to time during a hunt. Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks,

loctite would be my choice. Just be sure to use the one that can be broken by standard hand tools. I’ve also heard of people using wax.

Loctite works, or teflon tape used for plumbing connections.

I've also used anti-seize compound. That may seem counter intuitive but its thick enough to prevent the head from coming off but still doesn't hold so tight that you can't unscrew it.

Thanks, Bill. I was indeed also thinking of plumbing tape, to give it a bit more grip, not just steel on steel. Will give it a try first.

Thanks Chucktowndiver for your suggestions as well!

I think that's probably there best choice. It keeps it from unscrewing on its own, but it also keeps it from rusting to the shaft so you can't unscrew it in the future.

Teflon or plumber's tape is the go, JBL used to supply a small plastic spool of it with their "Travel Magnum" gun as it has a two-piece shaft. You also used the tape to hold the threaded spear tips in place, just a couple of turns of the Teflon tape will do the job. Used it for decades and no problems..
