Hello,

I am looking to purchase diving fins and a mask and was wondering if anyone had some recommendations. For the fins, i am looking for something that is comfortable and reasonably affordable, i have size 8.5 feet with a D width. Any ideas?

For a mask, i have a short and round face and i have heard that it is hard to find a mask that will fit properly.

Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

What equipment should new divers expect to buy?

In the confusion of switching to the backup, I've alsoseen a diver grab the snorkel instead of the regulator. The are very close to each other. This mistake is more probable with new divers who aren't used to their gear's "feel". In any case, the result can be disastrous, and the risk is not worth the convenience of the integrated second stage.

Please excuse my ignorance, I just started to read up on SCUBA, why can "the results be disastrous"

thanks.

The poster is talking about a failure of your second stage regulator (a pretty rare occurrence these days) and you reach for your backup regulator ( usually called an octopus) but you grab your snorkel instead and breath in a lungful of water.

Thanks. Not that getting a lung full of water is any fun, but I thought "disastrous" would be worse.

I think that the best way to choose mask is to go to the store try them on. Guys there will show you how it should stick to your face.
