hello everybody,
is there anyone who knows about the pro´s & cons concerning
seac asso 50 / cressi sl 55
concerning:
, accuracy
, reliability / maintenance
, power
It´ll be mainly used in lakes with bad vis (2m) on pike and bass/perch.
I used a 71 omer scorpion so far but it´s too long in the usual poor viz with tree´s & stuff under water...
I could get either the cressi with power regulator or the
seac asso (without power regulator)

Thank´s for any advice!

Hi frog,
What are the spearfishing regulations in Germany?

For lake fishing with 2m vis I would go for a longer gun. How about a 70cm Mares Cyrano? It is a highly recomendet gun by Polish spearfishermen, who do hunting in probably simular conditions.

Hi Paddy,
as I stated earlier, I usually use a 71 Omer.
For the conditions I dive in now it´s too long, because of sunken trees a the like...that´s why I want to go for a shorter one.
I can choose between the seac or the cressi now.
Cheers

Hello, i have a 55SL, for me it's a really bad gun, the trigger mech is too hard so you can't get an accuracy and fast shoot.
Many people modify the trigger but why buy a gun if it's not good from the factory ?

I didn't try the seac so i can't say if the trigger mech is better or not.

Hi Vincent,
thanks for your comment. I wonder if you can adjust the trigger sensitivity as easy as you can do with the seac asso? the asso has a screw right behind the trigger, there you can adjust the sensitivity quite (?) easy with a screw driver. Maybe the Cressi works the same way? Did you ever have a look?
all the best

I have the Asso 30cm with belt holster (!!) makes you feel like a cowboy. The holster allows you to dive without holding the gun!

The gun is okay, generally I like it, but obviously it lacks power since it is only 30cm.

Hello, on the SL you have a screw too, but it's not for the sentivity, the screw work on the distance you have to put on the trigger to shoot,(sorry i don't find the good words to explain it) but you will allways need to press hard.
I tryed in water, turn the screw at maximum (shoot without press the trigger) and back a turn, it's allways too hard.
Do a search on italian forum with this words : "Cressi SL grilletto troppo duro" you will find the issue to fix it with a kit.

Vincent2A,

I think a lot of the "off the shelf" pneumatic guns are still not "that good" in standard form, the airbalete is maybe the beginning of a new wave of better guns. Mares are rumoured to be coming to market with a new vaccum or dry barrel model soon (it's late already apparently....).

If you don't want to buy a replacement trigger mech, you could maybe try re-greasing the trigger mech, it made a big difference to my sl55.

frog22,

I used an SL55 for a few years and my experience with it was a good one.

Mine was accurate in standard form, I shot mackerel with it a few times when I wasn't hungover and managed to aim straight

I found it powerful enough - a couple of metres or so effective range at most really in standard form.

The asso piston is better than the standard Cressi one I'm reliably told, the cressi one most definitely does rust I can testify to that.

I still have the original o-rings on my 55 from when I bought it in 2000, (it gets stored depressurised in winter and has about 20bar in it during the season). So in terms of maintenance it's cost me a few piston changes, and a couple of bent spears - nothing major.

If you do get an SL55, consider changing it to a Tovarich kit with a new trigger mech, and different piston, you'll get less recoil, less noise, and more effective range, but to be fair with a 55 length gun it's going to be a bit of a gamble taking "long shots" with a shorter spear imo..

i own 2 cressi 55 an i love them both my older one has a 70mm shaft on it an is super accurate. and i will say the trigger on them are hard. i have only had one bad thing to say about them is my old cressi the shaft fell out of it with it being loaded, i picked it up an shoved it back in an havent had anymore problems with it so there is something to think about also.
